If staying in Thailand almost all the time, I would say yes. For most such people, the only good reason not to use an extension of stay is if they cannot satisfy the financial proof. A very few may deliberately use Non O visas because it gives them a good excuse to be away from the wife for a short holiday every few months. For people who visit Thailand frequently, but whose visits are irregular, the multiple entry Non O may be more convenient. This is because using an extension means there are specific date windows where you must be in Thailand to apply for the extension. Same i have been did before. However, after my last arrival to Suvarnabhumi airport i got the troubles (about 2 month ago). Officer wanted to reject me in the border. The problem was resolved only with one more officer with higher rank. I showed marriage certificate and copy id card of my wife. As i understood, they thought that i want to hide my real place of residence, so i did not visit local immigration. Be careful with it. Many Thai airports and the Poipet/Aranya crossing are not friendly - even to those married to Thais. There seems to be a resentment that the MFA can issue longer or sequential permissions of stay, and some reports indicate this can be coupled with a negative attitude towards "mixed relationships." Be careful with it. Your warning is appreciated, though I don't see what would stop a "bad guy" from using a fake-address in all situations - especially easy via an agent. Seems more like you were caught in the apparent "turf war" between some factions within Immigration Vs the MFA & TAT folks - possibly mixed with negative attitudes towards mixed-relationships (stated openly, per other's reports). The solution would be spot-checks by police of alien-residences, to verify reporting-accuracy. I fully-support the Thai authorities knowing where aliens live, because I want to live in a Safe Thailand, where real "bad guys" are not able to hide "under the radar." Unfortunately, we have an ever-changing address reporting system which varies by office, by the day, and by the person you talk to in the office on a given day. A good first step, would be making the "address" box on the TM-6 large enough to hold a Thai address, without finding the guy who can "Write your name on a grain of rice" to fill it. Next, let the TM-6 serve the same function as a TM-28 (same database, and no need to report the same address twice), and keep TM-30/landlord issues completely separate, as intended in the originating law. In addition to address reporting issues, some immigration offices can be difficult or impossible to deal with. Anyone reading this forum for a longer period has seen the reports of no-receipt fees, surprise-fees (like TM-30s without warning), and services difficult or impossible to get without using an agent. Until the processes are consistent, and the bad-links in the personnel-chain are removed, I am glad there is an alternative way for married aliens to remain in Thailand with their families. I recall reading on a thread somewhere ( can't find it now ) that certain days were very busy due to the agents with people doing visa runs. "The official closing time for the Lao visa on arrival office is 6pm but they are sometimes open later if they are busy. Yes, Thai immigration was a little concerned, but waved me through, and then I waited for the casino van to cross over (50 THB), and was the only one needing a visa on arrival on the Lao side, and the Lao immigration processed it without any problem. The real issue when crossing into Lao late at night is that there are no transportation options. No tuk tuks, taxis, songthaews, skylabs, motorcycle taxis or samlors, nothing. I know each corner of Savanakhet and I can confirm to people who do not care, that there is nothing to see or do.
