Flash (.swf) Files Won't Play

Featured Replies

When I try to play a .swf file, WMPlayer opens and I get ...

"Your security settings will not allow this action"

I have opened up the settings in Tools/Options/Security

but to no avail.

Anyone have an idea why this is happening and

how to get these files to play in WMPlayer ??

You should be able to play files with .swf file name extensions in Windows Media Player but you must have Macromedia Flash Player installed. You can change your Internet security settings (Administrator) by doing the following:

1. In Control Panel, open Internet Options.

2. Click the Security tab, and then click Internet.

3. In the Security level for this zone area, click Default Level.

If you can’t play the file after completing this procedure, restart your computer, and then try to play the file again. If you still can’t play the file, try to play another file with the same file name extension. If you can play this file, then there is a problem with the file that you want to play.

What version of Windows Media Player do you have?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had already done this including reinstlling the Flash Player.

WMPlayer is version 10.00.

open shockwave player if you have it - if not install it, do file open and point to the file you cannot play in media player, if ok then go to the file hold the shift key down and right click, select "open with" the select shockwave, click the "always open with" box

I think VLC Media Player can play them.

Downloaded VLC Media Player ...... would not run a .swf file. Wmv file is no problem.

I uninstalled shockwave and deleted the object from the cache as advised at MS help. Then reinstalled. Still no go.

I notice that the program is listed in "Add/Remove Programs". But there is no size in KB listed like other programs which seems strange.

Any more ideas ??

Thanks
