FEBRUARY 2 POLL
Election ballots not burnt; error in reporting

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Anti-government protesters did not burn election ballots during their seizure of Kurusapa printing house as earlier alleged, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Puchong Nutrawong, EC secretary general, also corrected another false report that ballots were printed in excessive numbers.

He acknowledged having problems in organising the advance election in some southern provinces this Sunday due to a shortage of 50,000 personnel to be stationed at polling booths.

He asked for cooperation from all ministries, departments and the armed forces and said personnel from other agencies might be assigned to work at polling booths.

Candidacy registration failed to take in 28 constituencies in eight southern provinces. In the view of the EC, a royal decree would be needed to hold elections in the 28 constituencies after the February 2 general election, Puchong said.

I know it's cold but they wouldn't burn the election ballots to keep warm.

Glad the EC have clarified their error.biggrin.png

Clearly, an endgame is finally being contemplated as a quorum-lacking parliament is now inevitable, although apparently only by the EC. The administration is still in lah-lah land - blinded by the apparent glitter of the powers an emergency decree would give them. And yet - even if the EC's strategy was adopted - how would the administration govern in the intervening two months ? As the administration now looks with trepidation into the abyss, we have an administration not so much functioning as being hooked up to life-support. Willingly.

Anyway.....those ballots will be thrown away.

There will be NO elections on the 2nd.

Just waste of taxpayers money.

Who or which paper made the "error " in reporting? Sent from my XT1032 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

A scandalous lie, blatant as it comes... no papers, burnt and now too many. How much more confidence in the EC has this generated

Tis pity that as most thai media are on their side nobody pushed the poor mite.

The Government invited them in for meeting, they snubbed and then we see them at rallies and making claims of how the election can be changed to suit suthep... IE cancelled.

Then they complain when Yingluk quite rightly tells them "It's your constitution, your laws, you wrote and enacted it, you rule and judge it so now YOU GET ON AND DO IT!!!." Nothing wrong with that and it's just highlighting the hypocricy and connivance more every day.

Today, they are trying to involve and bring in other agencies to spread around the blame or shield themselves and try to make it look as if they were really trying in the first place... which they were not.

This is just more proof of the collusion of the Courts in all of this.. Spread far and wide across the world as further proof of what is going on in this Coup Plot.

No wonder the gov tried to change the const. and get rid of the judges. This is proof they were right to fight them and Yingluk knew all along that a Judicial Coup was frantically trying to get traction.

Must be getting desperate now on the Coup side of the fence. With a big change in the Country, they really could end up in prison this time. Long long overdue.

I keep reading from supporters of both sides that "nigh--the end is near!"

Well, somebody is going to be very wrong--maybe both sides, who both have valid arguments and are simultaneously full of fermented dinosaur feces (perhaps of the pterosaur variety most often dropped during mating season as a gift to the beloved).

Both sides are perfectly posed to have the situation precisely, and carefully, mismanaged in some way that cannot be proven (well, it could be proven in a world court whose opinions are not welcome, but not here in LOS, where the truth is very elastic).

Resume rants.

My brother in law is currently commanding a detachment of 40 police guarding the building housing the ballot papers, he has told us the rabble were around yesterday to test the resolve of the 400 police and army surrounding the building. The staff worked all last night to ensure the papers could leave today for the provinces.

The lorries left this morning without incident.
