BANGKOK: -- Several anti-government protest sites remained the targets of night harassment by unknown armed groups with gunfire and small bombs but caused no injury.

The continual threat forced several security guards of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee to reinforce their sandbag bunkers and expand protective areas to ensure safety for protesters.

Under constant harassment by armed men last night is the protest site of the PDRC at Chaeng Wattana.

Several explosions and gunshots were heard outside the sandbag barricade of the protesters. Protesters’ guards said they saw youths in motorcycles and then gunshots and explosions were heard.

Abbot Buddhaisara, leader of the protesters at Chaeng Wattana site, said this morning security guards would elevate the sandbag wall around the protest site and more CCTV cameras would be installed for safety reasons.

Meanwhile, the protest site at Silom/Rama IV intersection was also another target of harassment throughout the night with sound of explosions and gunshots outside the protective area of the security guards. No one was injured.

Lard Prao intersection site of the Network of Students and People for Thailand’s Reform also was harassed with sporadic sound of gunshots and explosions. Also no one was hurt. But security guards said they have to adjust security measures at night.

Says something about the level of Security provided by the powers that be.

Persons with weapons, explosives, etc able to freely go near or around protest sites, but are not checked coming in or ot of those areas

And this is how a SOE is Enforced ?

"Anti-goverment protest sites still under harassment......."

Read the headline again! It says sites!!

No protesters left, so the only thing to harass is the empty stage and the loudspeakers!coffee1.gif

Yeah, wishful thinking, as the protest sites (pl.) are presently filled up with voluntary arriving folks from the North and Northeast. Red-shirts, eat your heart out!

As for the loudspeaker harrasment, it shows the government supporters run out of ideas...

You must have missed it, but the army are providing the security, in and out of uniform and some even sneaking in at night with guns.

It is a harrying tactic einstein. Keep the sheep awake all night worrying and running around chasing shadows.

They were doing it at Cheang wattana :) shining laser pens amongst them and they freaked out. Normal Tactic employed anywhere in the world. Not really news worthy.

Be interesting if a campaign of laser shining took off. They'd really run then.

Wouldn't be surprised to discover that the ones who may carry or use weapons at the peripheries are those with no sponsor or political allegiance at all.

People can only take so much of seeing some sh!twit loser standing guard at a major road arrogantly refusing them access to their home when the road blocks nearly nothing. It's just meant to inconvenience. Think they're bigshots with their cowboy hats and Thong Chat wristbands and sub-30 IQs. Might as well be a uniform. F#cking losers, same as the lot who took over Ratchaprasong.

Did (by any weird chance) any of think that there are alot of people form the south in BBk right now. I thought the sout was having all kinds of trouble with people getting shot and bombs going off. Is it possible that these same people have decided to bring it to Bangkok to help suthep and his thugs??????? Remember suthep ordered the police and the army to open fire with live rounds 3 years ago.

Possible, but not very likely, IMO.

The border-provinces, which have a high proportion of Muslim inhabitants, are where those troubles have been confined to, with attacks targeting the military & police & those seen to be supportive of the Thai state, village-officials & teachers & so on.

These aren't really the same areas as support the Dems or Suthep.

If ever the troubles were really extended to target the distant capital, then they would surely direct their efforts against government-targets, not anti-government protesters ?

It would be a very worrying development, if this were ever to happen, or if some more-aggresive insurgent group like Al-Qaeda were to get involved, and take up the fight for their own state. Apart from the strange case of the Iranian bombers , and that video threatening Thaksin for his past crimes in the South, I don't recall anything serious.

So you are saying that the army is trying to harass the protestors. But you and the rest of the red sheeple rabble keep saying that the army is on the protestors side. So which is it ?

And how is attacking your own side helping ? Oh yeah, they are trying to get sympathy according to all you red sheeple morons. In that case all the dead red shirts in 2010 were killed by red shirts to get sympathy for their side, so Abhisit and Suteb can go home and no need for that stupid court case...
