People discussing it on thai visa .......also have different views .....so what is the point ?

Any one who choses to attempt to stop a free man's God given right to vote, places his person in danger of violence reprisal,

Why is the Army not out to protect a Thai citizens right to vote. do they represent the rich elite or all the rest of the people of this great country.

Suthep has another of his flock, dispatched, to try to provoke a coup!

DEP,

Condolences to the man's family, but if you knowingly and willingly engage in illegal and undemocratic practices, you're going to make enemies, and should expect illegal and undemocratic repercussions.

That principle could be applied to most politicians too but how would you feel if it had been a member of the government who was killed?

The same.

He was from the student network, not pcad.

Protesters are the minority in bkk and they will suffer further losses next Sunday, if they try to block polling boots

What about the people who're trying to vote with bullets flying?

Many Dem's supporters want to vote "no vote" which is completely legal, but based on Chalerm's threats of ex-judicial killings and today's cowardly assassination, they are afraid of Chalerm. They are afraid to vote!

Seriously, PM Yingluck, is this what you had in mind for Thailand's 2014 election?

Whats the point?

People supporting Suthep will say "look at these red thugs!!!"

People supporting PTP will say "thats what happens when you block people from exercising their right to vote"

All have their greivance and their arguments. But no one should die because of this. I hope the people who committed this act are caught and prosecuted.

The sad fact is that everyone knew this was coming. Everyone knew this wasnt going to be peacefully resolved as we edged closer to the election. Intransigence and playing political games with peoples lives brought this about. But people keep upping the rhetoric. Now we have the man in charge of the police response threatening extra judicial killings to the man who implicitly threatened the family of the prime minister. Its like a playground, but all the kids have weapons. And of course, now the protestors cant disperse of because they have to show to the world the lengths their opposition will go to stop them from protesting. Whilst their opposition cant leave because they have to show to the world they wont be intimidated by a mob preventing them from exercising their democratic right. The only sane thing left is to hope that as few people die as possible and that the army stays locked up in its barracks while order is returned and the polling stations are opened (and protected). All points from all sides have been made exactly as they wanted. Selective and self serving evidence and photos and incidents will mean the media war can be played out by both sides. And that means only more of the same alas.

I'd like to see the same scenario happening in the United States. Protesters blocking the Capitol, storming the White House, threatening to arrest Obama and his Cabinet, cutting electricity and water to the DC Police and the US Army, preventing people from participating in the election, etc.

How would the US government have dealt with this? I don't think there would be a protester left standing at this point.

I think the current Thai government has been very fair with the protesters.

I think the caretaker govt has learnt the lessons from the past. Good on them for still being able to keep the pot from completely boiling over.

Finally, now Suthep will see the damage he has done to his country in his effort to gain leadership other than the ballot box. Shame on this terrible excuse of a man.

Finally, a certain person gets what he really wants, killings, murders, fights, in short civil war.

As long as he can wield his power, direct or by proxy.

Absolutely agree that you wouldn't be able to block roads, invade government offices, etc. in the USA.

Politics stinks in this country. The police force stinks. The level of corruption stinks.

The country is rapidly going down the toilet and all sides are to blame ... as are the population at large.

You and your pal, Jackrich, keep parroting this stuff. So, let me tell you, again, that you are wrong and do not know what you are talking about. When there is violence in the US, such as at Kent State, the entire country becomes revulsed and public policy is changed. Not to mention that a whole lot of very bad Billy Jack movies get made. But otherwise, there are many instances of large groups marching on the capital, the Pentagon, and, most recently, on election offices in the aftermath of the 2000 US presidential election. Nobody gets shot. When things turn violent, as at Kent State and the Chicago Democratic Convention in 68, authorities and the government suffer immensely.

You can blame all the red shirts that you want to, but stop and think. There was no violence until suthep brought up people from the south that is when there were shot and explosions.

So you are saying that the red shirts really hate people from the south and that the people from the south should know better than to go to Bangkok. I'd say that level of hate and intolerance cannot be tolerated. Do you think that there is a possiblity that the red shirts will be killing lot's more southerners?

There come those times when you've got to put up and defend yourself with your fists, a knife, a baseball bat or a gun, whatever.

No one has advocated violence, except Suthep, until now and the people behind and alongside Suthep have had a long run of fighting and being fought with words, but there comes a day when it's time to lay it on the people who are prepared to run right over you.

Today was the day, elections and voting, and some men drew the line in the sand and the election blockers got a taste of frontier justice. Richly deserved imho.

And yes, you prevent me from exercising my right to vote in a democratic election, especially one that the opposition has done so much to frustrate in every underhanded, imaginable way and you'll find me well hard and going after the culprits to make sure they know unequivocally where the line is.

Since when has Suthep advocated violence? Except for a few bouts of violence, this 3 month protest has been relatively peaceful. It is the protestors that have been shot at and bombed.

A little person has actually talked about 'defending with your fists, a knife, a baseball bat or a gun, whatever.' Well newsflash, after today's assasination, you can bet the protestors will be defending themselves. Whatever violence that happens next, the Shinawatras are to blame because they are the ones who just martyred one of the protest leaders and gave the protestors the moral high ground,

Gerry, it would be wise to wait to get the details of what really happened. You have a long history of rushing to judgement, only to be proven wrong. It might be the case that this is a dispute gone very wrong rather than a target. Better to wait for the police to work out what happened. They have been very even-handed throughout this conflict

When a protest leader gets shot dead right after the government hints of extra judicial killings, it's not rushing to judgement. And if the said people who are supposed to be carry out those killings are police then I very much doubt they're going to work out what happened this lifetime.

The RS's and everyone else are still waiting on why Kwanchai was shot. All that is known is that Thaksin has offered him medical care in Bangkok, instead of the THB 30 medical care he supported for those who voted for him.

Here is a photo from Twitter, taken apparently minutes before the protest leader was shot:

Be5N7L7CYAAT2nA.jpg

The report said he was shot on a truck with speakers, so that is probably the truck they are referring to.

Doesn't seem to be the same truck as the one visible in the video posted a few pages back.

Yes there is. It passes right to left at the bottom of the screen. Only briefly visable.

the right to protest is illegal? He wasn't blocking anything and if he was isn't that what the police are for?

You're justifying this murder? How about the men beating on the woman in the back of the truck shouting

paw leaow!? bah.gif

Kwanchai case was supposed to be business debate. This is most probably political criminal case ...

So where were the police?

All that trouble earlier in the day and not a cop to be seen.

Wonder if Yingluck and CMPO will be charged with murder now that the government's military wing has executed a man

ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First i think it is pretty safe to say that most of us on here are not Thai nor are we allowed to vote.

Second i think it is also fair to say that we all knew that this day would come only an idiot or tourist would think it would not.

People have died. Thai's on both sides are going to up the rhetoric. Which will solve absolutely nothing.

My first question is where is Yingluck? No offence to those that support her but let's face it as a leader she is seeming about as useful as her brother at this point.

The EC stated that this was an issue, the world knew that this was an issue, it has been stated that this group was going from polling station to polling station. OK where were the police? The problem here is that there is no real police presence that takes control and is respected. If the police had of been at the polling station then this would not have happened. Who is in charge of the police, Yingluck and Chalerm.

There is only one way out of this mess.

let me ask the Brits do you think the Queen would do if it got this bad?

To the yanks and you have the most experience with this. What happened during the Race and anti Vietnam riots.

Bring in the military as a caretaker government set up a reform group of non political people.

There is a huge difference between 2 men fighting for 2 very different things. In the Ukraine, Klitschko is among the protesters, even at the very front of the fights with police. He is fighting for Democracy, calling for elections. Suthep on the other hand is currently in a safe house according to the latest media reports, hoping his supporters will make a power grab for him and is not afraid of causing a civil war in order to prevent elections. Two men, one a hero, one a coward.

Well how come I saw him leading protesters down Sukhumvit last week.

U democracy is the greatest thing since sliced bread fools who report 'according to reports' with no real idea what u are talking about. Thaksin went from well off to filthy rich while in power, installed his family in key public service positions, bought votes directly or with suck the country dry populist schemes... his sister continually it.

Reform, end corruption, then fair elections

OBITUARY
Thaksin's big-time opponent latest victim of political violence
The Nation

Suthin was last photographed eating orange before he was gunned down Sunday.
.
BANGKOK: -- Sutin Taratin, one of leaders of People's Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime, has become the latest victim of political violence. He was gunned down Sunday outside the Bang Na advance voting station.

He was an non-governmental organisaton officer working for Local Development Institute (LDI) and he was close to former secretary-general of the State Enterprises Labour Relations Confederation Somsak Kosaisuk.

Suthin was one of founders of People's Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime, which was established in June, 2013. He was chief of guard of the group when they staged rally at Bangkok's Lumpini Park until the group joined the People's Democratic Reform Committee.

Earlier Suthin was former deputy director of New Politics Party, affiliated with yellow-shirt but now-defunct People's Alliance for Democracy, while Somsak is party leader.

Anti-government protest leader Suriyasai Katasila said Suthin was not a hardline leader at all.

What the hell does that power craze Suthep want...no elections , an appointed council...appointed by whom, himself? What reforms....for the Democrats to have power without winning any elections, the Democarst are just as corrupted at the Pheu Thai Party only diffrenec is that they never did any thing for the poor except to help the ammnart, and rich thai chinese in Bangkok (not the poor or middle class thai chinese or pure thais). The middle class bangkokians and southerners who are aiding the Terrorists Thugs are no diffrenece from what they call the Northern and Northeastern peasants as stupid buffalos, they too are stupid for merely joining the protests and questing Suthep and Democarst on their past corruption actions and as to why they never did anything costrcutive in the past and what new reforms?

Enough is enough, all these politicains be it Pheu Thai, Democrats are corrupted and rotten and the reds, yellows, PRDC, UDD are all stupid cows....please stop for the sake of this great and nice country that has lots of potential and also stop infringing on the rights of normal citizens who want democracy.

I agree the rich Thai Chinese have too much power and influence here but without their most dominant family there would be no PTP anyway.
