Guys, I need some domestic advice.

We have some new sliding windows and there was a fair about of Sticky/Scotch Tape on the glass pane.

Usually I would use Mineral Turpentine as a solvent and a bit of dishwashing liquid to remove the Turps.

But wasn't, while shopping, able to find any Turps.

Now, I'm sure HomePro etc have Turps ... however, I'm not in a position to visit one of their stores.

So I'm looking for a simple solution which I can buy from a garden variety TESCO store.

Any and all replies welcomed.

Razor blade. Harsh chemicals can break down glues and plastics.(And, no, not an electric razor.)

the trick is to only rub the glass and you dont need to use a whole litre

the corner of a towel dipped into a motorcycle tank will be plenty without

spilling any of it on the window sealant

benzine 91 or gasohol both work fine ,you could scratch your glass using a metal tool

and it would take much longer than using a solvent as well

WD40 or the orange bottles of cleaner/degreaser available in every supermarket, I think Mr Muscle is the brand name- but the important marker is the orange spray bottle.

simple..nail varnish remover...takes all the sticky off

Will second that. It's amazing stuff for removing all sorts of crap off glass. Takes permanent marker off in seconds.

Make sure you don't get any run off going onto plastic/metal frames.

Thanks for all the replies above ... thumbsup.gif

There is some tinting on the windows so I'll go with the White vinegar remedy first and, is that doesn't work for us, I will try the stronger suggestions.

The Thai other half did mention Oil used to remove the glue residue.

Will report back after we've done the job.

The Thai other half is smart. I had the same problem and oil did it. A penetrating oil like the WD-40 suggested or the cheap MoS oil works fine. Let it soak in for 30 secs and the wipe hard with a soft cloth
