A friend of mine had a visa and workpermision.

Then he quit his work and his workpermision was cancel, after that he just stay in Thailand for 2 more month (because his visa vallid another 2 month) now he shall go out from Thailand for start a new visa.

Now suddenly he heard something that when your workpermision is cancelled you have to leave Thailand within 7 days, is this true and if yes what will happen with him now when he comes to the boarder?

In his passport everything is normal and standing very clear that he have a visa and have the right to stay until now in Thailand.

If he has a Visa issued by a Thai Consulate he will be OK.

If he has an Extension of Stay from Immigration he will be fined 500 baht a day overstay from the date his employment ended.

The fine has a maximum of 20,000 baht.

He could possible he could just leave the country without paying an overstay but if he has an extension that has been cancelled it would show up in immigration's computers and he would be liable for the overstay fine so he would need to have the funds available to pay the fine.

It would be best for him to leave by air if he has an extension because immigration has turned people away if they still had a valid extension at border crossings.

As said if it is a visa obtained from an embassy or consulate it is not a problem.
