In Pattaya (or BKK.... I'd make the drive for one). Anyone? There used to be Bob's, I'm assuming they've permanently gone under?

I have got your answer and I have been eating it for almost 10 years now.

The Boat Bakery on 2nd road in Pattaya.

It is located on the opposite side of the street just a couple of blocks south of the Royal Garden Plaza.

It comes with a vegetable melody topped with a home made cheese sauce (which is not that good), toasted and buttered roll, french fries, and a breaded deep fried chicken breast that is topped with a home made chicken gravy (which is pretty good) and that meal cost a whole 95 Baht, which of course makes it the best meal deal in Pattaya.

You can also order a pork, beef, or fish steak and they all come with the same side dishes.

But surely Chicken Fried Steak is made of beef, not chicken? At least it is in Texas, where the dish is said to originate.

chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are both fairly common. either way you will feel a heart attack coming on. easily a 2500 calorie meal if done right with all the (Kenny Powers voice) fixins

That picture reminds me of Threadgills in Austin. Anybody ever eat there?

mmmmm... Threadgills. Salt Lick BBQ too if you're in the neighborhood.

I hope it tasted as good as this looks:

no green beans? Maybe some baked white fish to help wash it down too.

A drive to Ban Chang and the Beaver Bar will get you a really great Chicken fried steak. Larry says it's one of his top sellers among the local farang work crews.

As an aside, the phrase "chicken fried steak" (CFS) is short for something like: "tenderized beef steak that is cooked like fried chicken." It is actually a great-tasting dish if the meat is not tough. The picture certainly takes me back to the southern states of the USA where CFS is common. All too often cooks do not know how to select the right cut of steak and pound it into oblivion before frying it. A good alternative version is using top quality ground beef, which is always tender. I have never found a "good version" in Thailand. I did try it at the now defunct Bob's BBQ and it was just OK. So, Tequilla Reef has it? Is it good/tender?

Well, no response to my question, so I went to Tequilla Reef and tried it. It did not resemble chicken fried steak back in the USA and was tough too. Stick with other stuff on their menu. I am frustrated with the food situation in Thailand: no smoked BBQ, no common American food items like meatloaf and beef stew (yes, they are here but nobody makes it good), no Chinese food (American Chinese), no Mexican food (Tex-Mex) and no place to even get a good hamburger.

Here's your opportunity to fix the situation!

Obviously, given the scarcity of American food chains in Thailand, such as KFC, Sizzler, Burger King, Pizza Hut, McDonalds etc., nobody likes American-style food in Asia and it is impossible to manufacture outside of the United States, so I can understand why there is no market for it :) Now, back on planet earth, we should expect restaurants that have an American-food theme to offer authentic American food items. In the same way, we should expect some people to be able to make common Italian food items, common German food items, common British food items (although, I can't imagine why they would want to do that), etc.
