TCC denies corporations are helping protesters

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Chamber of Commerce has called on the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) to stop making blanket accusations against business operators for supporting anti-government protesters.

The chamber also warned that legal actions might be taken against CMPO if the accusations have tarnished the reputation of the chamber.

In a statement issued today, the TCC said CMPO’s plan to release a list of individuals and corporations suspected of providing financial support to the protesters would affect the economy and ruin the country’s image.

It said that if CMPO had evidences to prove that any corporation was supportive of the cause of the protest it should immediately take legal actions against such corporation. But if there are no incriminating evidences, CMPO should act in a transparent manner and be fair to those to be affected by the accusations.

Mr Vichai Asrassakorn, vice chairman of the TCC, insisted that no business operators had provided financial support to the protesters.
