General Sarit's army convoys approached the railhead at Lampang is northern Thailand with a load of opium. Phao's police surrounded the convoy and demanded that the army surrender the opium since antinarcotics work was the exclusive responsibility of the police. When the army refused and threatened to shoot its way through to the railway, the police brought up heavy machine guns and dug in for a fire-fight. A nervous standoff continued for two days until Phao and Sarit themselves arrived in Lampang, took possession of the opium, and escorted it jointly to Bangkok, where it quietly disappeared.

At: "Police: Trained to collect tea money, take bribes"

And bribe, so a police officer is currently controlling the government not an army officer.....Money often counts more than guns.

Well the army might be heavy trained but when i saw them after the protests 3 years ago and after the flooding they didn't have a lot of muscles. My arms had the size of their legs almost. They should eat more meat i guess. Thai asked me many times if i am a soldier but i have never been in the army.

The History channel in Thailand tonight is showing the battle of Singapore. 130,000 guys with big muscles surrendered after one week I think.

As you'all know, the equivalent British fixture takes place next weekend, in the second round of the Challenge Cup.

I did a bit of quick research, and apparently historically, the RTP has had a slight advantage, as they can offer their players more long-term jobs, and thus ensure continuity and experience in their squad.

It was a little bit alarming that so many people started spouting off about guns and ammo, and it makes me somewhat nervous of the sort of people amongst whom I associate.

Usually the Thai army (but it is also policy in other armies with which draft) sends the drafted children first into battle and saves the skilled professionals for later.

Which is logic you don't want to loose the soldiers you trained for many years.....

In Austria I recall the officers call the drafted soldiers "meat"....
