Slaying of boys 'likely revenge'

Slaying of boys 'likely revenge'
THE SUNDAY NATION
SONGKHLA

The February 3 slaying in three young Muslim brothers and the wounding of their parents in Bacho in Narathiwat was likely to have been a personal act of revenge.

That was the preliminary finding released yesterday following an ongoing Southern Border Provinces Administration and Development Advisory Council investigation.

Chaiyong Maneerungsakul, chairman of the council's communications and people participation committee, said the fact-finding committee would meet with relevant agencies in Bacho district tomorrow to examine evidence and the police investigation and undertake other related matters.

Chaiyong said the probe found revenge was the likely motive behind the attack on Jehmu Maman's family in Bacho on February 3 because Jehmu had fought accusations that he was a national security suspect.

The cases against him were dismissed and that may have prompted people affected by the bloodshed in the deep South to attack them.

The probe also found that the assailants may be linked to a ranger who was a relative of a victim in the case initially linked to Jehmu.

Insurgents reportedly used the deaths of the three brothers to carry out three separate attacks that killed six people, including Thursday's drive-by shooting in Pattani that killed a monk and a nine-year-old boy and his mother while six other people were injured.

The council also issued a statement yesterday calling on all sides to end the violence against innocent people and urged local residents and officials to watch out for attacks and try and prevent them.

In related news, police in Pattani's Mae Lan district yesterday interviewed witnesses to the drive-by shooting, while the Army summoned two people over their alleged involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, National Buddhism Office chief Nopparat Benjawatananun attended Wat Mae Suay in Mae Lan for the Abidhamma prayer for the slain monk and three other people killed.

A temple fund has provided Bt100,000 to the monk's family, Bt30,000 to each family of the three people killed and Bt10,000 to each families of the injured.

Meanwhile, two construction contractors were shot dead in Rangae, Narathiwat, at about 2.30pm yesterday.

The dead men have been identified as Muhammaddaoh Sani, 46, and Saidi Yalaesangae, 34.

The assailants' pickup truck was found at the scene smashed into roadside tree.

Police suspect the killings are linked to a business conflict or the ongoing unrest.

Hopefully this thread won't turn into another 'Political' slanging match, by the usual suspects.

I am deeply saddened in relation to all of the unnecessary deaths, absolutely shocking and barbaric.

Fair enough, but I find it odd the Nation article does not spell out the children’s father is out on bail after allegedly killing a member of the local Tessaban due to a 'dispute' and this is the probable cause for the revenge attack - all reported in detail in the BKK Post.

Thought to be, may have, could be linked, preliminary, suspect, reportedly. A Thai triple murder news story in the Thai south with all these conditionals.

That's a fair call too, Simple1. Of course only a fool IMHO, would take 'only' the information provided by the media and take it for being factual. Not only the nation, any of them really, the old 'Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story' springs to mind. Media worldwide are guilty of it.

I do know one thing, it's a very cowardly act to shoot at children, women and generally people that are just going about their daily lives minding their own business. Cowardly and gutless acts normally carried out by men who wouldn't have the testicle to stand up and directly fight the enemy head on.

Revenge killing of children, women, innocent people, I don't care what side of the fence you sit on, perpetrate this and you're a disgusting individual.

Just makes the 'revenge' attacks on completely innocent non Muslims even more terrible.

All killings are tragic.

Interesting accounts from the father and other family members:

Hatred, Greed and Religious Fundamentalism (that's aimed at ALL Religions) are insidious sicknesses of this world!

Sadly these three lovely young lads,.. brothers no less, paid the price for something they knew nothing about and were completely innocent to.

I just think of my own boys and how lovely and innocent and full of life they are (same ages as these poor victims) and it just makes me want to cry.

R.I.P boys XXX

It is sad that the innocent are targets, may they all Rest in Peace no matter what sides they were on or what group they belong to, it is sad to think that the present situation could lead our country down that same road where there are no winners!

Peace

False flag reporting at its best.

What were they building...another army barracks or police box!

No matter what the reason for the killings, it is terribly sad that innocent children are the victims.

No matter what the reason for the killings, it is terribly sad that innocent children are the victims.

Would it be any less terrible and sad if they were innocent adults?

The role of parents and adults is to protect children. Children do not have a say in where they live. In this case, it is the failure of a lot of people that these children died. It's natural to feel more saddened by the death of children, who never had a real chance to fulfill the promises of life. But rather than argue that point, let's please stay on topic.
