Another dry weekend, is "advance" elections still on 23rd Feb?

So it seems like nobody knows if there will be another dry weekend. Did a search on the subject and did not find anything indicating that the advance election fixed for 23rd feb had been cancelled. I'm not sure if this will be country wide or only in constituences where the previous advanced election were cancelled. Anyone know???

Why not just stock up in advance just in case?

Plus these restrictions are not universally implemented in all locations by all vendor types.

If this is really so important for you to know in advance for planning purposes, inquire at the specific establishment you're concerned about.

What's a "Dry weekend"? There's always somewhere that will sell alcohol (whatever the reason for the ban). My local restaurant managed to slip several vodka's into my Coke during the last ban. The (Thai) owner never even wrote them on my bill ( i paid secretly later) whistling.gif

It is not a case of stocking up or going without beer for a day ,it is a case of knowing if you can go out anywhere.

That's right, not worth stepping foot outdoors to eat out at a nice restaurant if you can't get your booze fix.

Here's a hint - just go ahead and "go out" and see if you can have some fun that isn't based solely on dumping poison into your bloodstream!

If I misunderstood your post apologies in advance. . .

And BTW no matter the occasion you will always be able to find a place to get as drunk as you like, just maybe not at a particular place that wasn't willing to give the BiB what they were asking.

Oh the desperate dilemmas we are faced with each and

every day of living in Thailand.......might suggest you go

out on Saturday night and get so leathered that Sunday

becomes an irrelevance to your obvious plight.

I'm not worried about not being able to get drunk. It's just the inconvenience of not knowing. Last two elections there were two days where most places were closed and if I had not known ahead it would have been a waste of time going out.

Bar owners don't seem to know, they wait for someone to come and tell them to close and that only happens the same day or, in best case, the day before.

In the case of elections it is the law that they can not sell alcohol from 18:00 the day before election until 24:00 election day. The question really is if ther will be an advance election 23rd Feb and if it's country wide or only in the 83 constituences where the previous advance election was interupted, You would think this information was available somewhere but as usual in Thailand lack of information is abundant.

Just stock up if you cant go a day without beer for a day.

Maybe he fancies going out for a few drinks...has a life, money, and a wife who doesn't run his life....etc...

I just spoke to the gaffer of my local and he'd not heard owt (indeed he said the Thai equivalent of "For Fooks sake, not another one!")

Don't mither about having to explain yourself to some of the Quakers on here patjock....

Absolutely no hint that the reelections will take part on Feb 23.

Lots of dates in rumour messages, like Mar 2, April ? and so on,

But not seen Feb 23.

Any sources?

The 23rd Feb was set by the election comission, the reason for this was that the previous advance election was disrupted in many constituences. The advanced election set for 23rd feb is an advanced election for the election held a few weeks ago. The election results from the election held a few weeks ago can not be released until the "advanced" election sheduled for 23rd Feb has been held.I have not seen any information saying this election has been cancelled.

All very confusing, do a search on "advanced election 23 february thailand" and you will find plenty of sources.

Who won the last lot they closed the bars for 2 weeks for?

The first weekend was the original advanced election, the second weekend was the real election. The results will not be known until the original advanced election is held again as the original advanced election was interupted in many constituences. The date to have a new "advanced" election was set to be 23rd Feb. When this has been completed the overall results will be known, unless the whole thing is being void, who knows??

Some news from January 30 about election on Feb 23.
Long antiquated.
More up to date from Feb 17:
http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/EC-and-govt-fail-to-agree-on-date-for-further-voti-30227063.html

describing March 2 as a possible date, but even this is disputed.
(the other source is Bangkok Post from Feb 19, which is not allowed to be quoted in this forum)

There will be no elections on Feb 23!
(for the correct date, ask your visionary)

About the "two weeks":

There was no barclosure for two weeks (not in 2013 at least).
Was feared so but quickly vaporized.
Business as usual or dimming the speakers/lights and no dancing on the street in Pattaya e.g. (was there at the time).
And it had nothing to do with elections, but with the demise of the supreme buddhist patriarch.

For elections there is an alcohol ban from Sat 18h to Sun 24h (midnight), not more, not less.

There is yeat another election planned: Senate election on March 30.

(source Bangkok Post from Feb 11)

Who knows whether it will take place...

No election

My wife had a SMS at 2.30PM today from the Thai Consulate in Sydney and they said she can come in to vote on Friday the 28th Feb. She rang them and they confirmed the SMS. So if any one here is interested that's the message.

it also confirms that the elections are now going ahead in Thailand for you over there.

Believe it or not: if there would be (re)elections in TWO days (mainly in the southern provinces), the gazettes would be full of news:

"protest" movement on the way to block the polling stations

stealing and burning the ballot papers

calling public servants to refrain from work

etc. etc.

No election on Feb 23, 2014 in Thailand!

Have a drink on me and enjoy it biggrin.png

And the answer is: 42

I love it that our hosts are going through such self-inflicted political trauma, and people here are only concerned about it to the extent it might interfere with their going out drinking.

Sounds like best thing is to keep a stock at home and keep in regular touch with Thais running establishments in your neighborhood. And realize even then you'll always be able to get a drink somewhere nearby anyway.

Certainly, you can go out. Not everything will close, even if an alcohol ban is invoked. Use your imagination and add to the stocking-up mentality. Remember, most of the girls live day to day, so stock-up in that respect too; have a party with friends

You are right, it doesn't confirm any voting date in Thailand and she does not have to come in to Vote on the 28th Feb as previously stated by the Thai Consulate Sydney.

However they have now contacted her and told her to come in with her Thai ID as confirmation, which she did today.

They then told her she could come into the Sydney Thai Consulate and Vote on Sunday 23rd March.

This may also change again with the Political turmoil going on. Chances are she will vote when we get there in April, who knows?
