Import/Export.

Currently I am a non investing partner in a new enterprise, unfortunately looks like we may hit a few technical problems.

"The samples are ready to send to you. But I am informed that it will be very difficult to receive samples in Thailand. Do you know anything about this? You may need import licesen to receive sample. And the tax is high. I think it is better you look into this and tell me something. I am worry that even the sample is in Thailand and you cannot receive it. So I am waiting for your news.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you."
The sample products are manufactured in Vietnam we wish to sell to the European market. I wish to receive the products in Thailand as it is where I live and will save us cash in sending the to Europe where I will be visiting soon (I can simply take them, the product in my luggage. What seems to be the problem? what is the process to rectify the situation so I can receive the goods if they are being held/not delivered to my address in Thailand by the delivery company?
Thank you kindly in advance.

As long as the items are not on the banned list (weapons, drugs, porn, religious items etc etc) there's nothing to stop your supplier sending them to you in Thailand although you may need an import licence for some stuff. You will pay import tax at the appropriate rate* and VAT. If you use one of the big couriers DHL, TNT etc (and assuming your supplier uses your correct full name and detailed address plus a phone number that the courier can reach you on) the courier will handle the import formalities and charge you a fee for doing so (approx. THB600) and will ask for a copy of your passport photo page. I use TNT and they are very good with good language skills and can talk you through the process. Theoretically, when you carry the goods out of Thailand you can recover the taxes but good luck with that - life is too short.

* can check in advance on the Thai Customs site - if any problems I will try to help.

Hope this helps.....

ASEAN free trade agreement. Unless the product is specifically excluded, banned or excluded, the import process is easy and straightforward. With a certificate of origin and correct shipping documents you don't even pay import duty. Only VAT over the goods plus shipping.
