BANGKOK, March 5 - A hand grenade was thrown but did not explode at the home of a leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) in Sukhumvit Soi 18.

The home belongs to PDRC leader Nataphol Teepsuwan and his wife Taya Teepsuwan.

The grenade was thrown at 5am Wednesday morning but did not explode; police suspected the bomb was aimed to threaten the owners and not to take their lives.

Police are investigating images from closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) and asking witnesses of the situation for further prosecution of the bomber.

Meanwhile, police at Makkasan Station arrested two PDRC guards while they were driving past a checkpoint in front of Pheu Thai Party Headquarters early Wednesday.

In the guards' vehicle, .32 and .38 pistols as well as 24 cartridges were found along with PDRC guard identities, bulletproof vests and tear gas.

The two men said they would only give testimony in court. (MCOT online news)

Second grenade attack at residence of rally leader in less than a week

BANGKOK: -- A grenade was thrown into residence of a Sukhumvit residence of a rally leader who blew whistles at ex-wife of fugitive premier Thaksin Shinawatra. However it did not go off although its safety pin was already taken off.

The attack was the second time in less than a week after a pipe bomb was lobbed into Nuthapol Teepsuwan’s residence in Klong Toey district on February 28.

Nuthapol and his wife; Taya, were among a group of the anti-government protesters who blew whistles at Khunying Potjamarn Na Pombejra at Emporium Shopping Complex late last month.

Pol Sgt Chatree Lekpetch, a bomb squad officer, told INN news agency that police were alerted at about 4am. Initial investigation found that the grenade was M1A9 type.

Home of a PDRC whistle blower attacked again with bomb

BANGKOK: -- The home of a whistle blower and also a co-leader of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) came under bomb attack again when a hand grenade was hurled into his house last night. Fortunately, the bomb did not explode.

Under grenade attack at his home is Nattapol Theepsuwan, a former Democrat MP, and an active anti-government protester.

Last night’s attack was the second time within a week. Last week, a pipe bomb was also thrown at his house on Sukhumvit 18 but did not explode.

The latest attack was reported to the police at 4.00 a.m. when occupants in the house reported a bomb was hurled into the house but it did not work.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) police rushed to the scene last night but did not establish what type of bomb was used in the second attack.

Nattapol was the person who blew whistle at Khunying Pojaman na Pombejara at the Emporium department store on February 26. His wife Taya, daughter of Khunying Sasima Srivikorn, also joined the whistle blowing.

Following the whistle blowing, the resort home of his wife’s mother Khunying Sasima Srivikorn near Khao Yai national park in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima was attacked by three gunmen wielding M 16 and AK 47 assault rifles on February 28.

Khuying Sasima reportedly apologized to Khunying Pojama for her daughter’s inappropriate behavior as both are friends.

The next day, a pipe bomb was thrown at Nattapol’s home on Sukhumvit 18.

Nattapol was a former MP of the Democrat party and a PDRC co-leader, while his wife Taya is also a strong advocate to the PDRC.

More proof of (very amateur and incapable) red shirt thugs, all this along with in Korat just due to blowing whistles.

Gunning down kids.. bombing.. the red thugs are far worse as their yellow counter parts. As expected of course as violence is their trade mark.

However I make no exception all thugs that use violence should be caught. But I understand why yellow has weapons, the police wont defend them and the reds as shown by their cowardly attacks are not shy of violence against non violent protesters.

Whistle results in grenade and bullets (moms house)

Yeah, that clearly states on the grenade, lots of love from your neighbourhood red thug doesn't it ?

Considering that most of the other grenades thrown have been the soviet type RD5's this could be something completely seperate, a personal beef?? Who knows, but why lob a grenade at his house to intimidate, why not just blow up his car or something? Honestly, IF the redshirts wanted to, they could easily be doing a lot worse, that being said, whoever it was knows where this guy stays, and maybe that's the point he/she/they were trying to make.

You're probably right about who's behind it, but you should never discount other possibilities, as for catching them, they're like ghosts, unless you catch one in the act, the Cops, armed guards etc are always going to be chasing shadows, not many bad guys tend to leave their names and addresses at the scenes of crimes ;)

A rather simplistic view of things, I think you'll find it goes a lot deeper than just blowing whistles, this is deep rooted hatred that has festered between the two groups for a while now, it's never likely to change, it's the Shia v's Sunni, Catholic v's Protestant, hindu v's Sikh, what you're seeing in Thailand is what's been going on globally for decades, as long as there's hatred thriving, sadly it's not going to change, and it's obvious that the Reds are the mainstays of wishing for violent confrontations.

700 deaths through acts of violence in Iraq in February, and same number in January, and they've got a democacy, they've got all the same issues as Thailand too, power struggles from within, from without, external factions causing death and destruction daily, corruption by the barrel load... Lets just hope to God, Thailand never even gets that's close to the issues of some other countries..

From the other report in BP....

Grenade left at PDRC leader's home

A grenade was found in front of the house of leading People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) member Nathapol Teepsuwan on Sukhumvit Soi 18 at about 4am on Wednesday, reports said.
It is believed the grenade was intended only to intimidate Mr Nathapol, since its safety lever was reportedly held down with adhesive tape.
Explosive ordnance disposal police were dispatched to Mr Nathapol's house to examine the scene.
I guess 14 minutes of fame wasn't enough ... if it was actual...shame on the perps... and I hope they are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of their pocketbooks...but far more likely it is schoolyard set-ups... two "bombs" in a week same house one report says left at the scene the other one says thrown unto the compound Wth...? Wonder Media.. neither of which explode... somethings rotten in Denmark...[js]

It is simplistic as much as they are simplistic in their thinking. Its not complex in its simplicity, comparing it to the situations you did. I don't think it has that deep a history nor meaning to compare to ancient groups of rivals- this started with Shinawatra, as did the southern insurgency that got worse with his arrival.

I think your comparisons are rather unrelated as far as red shirt recent increases in violence, just my view- its no centuries long stand off between ethnic groups etc.Hope as well Thailand doesn't go that direction that you compared it to. As long as there is hope for them that the square face will return, they'll con't in hopes that its not a lost cause. That man's demise marks the beginning of Thailand moving forward.

It is a decades old standoff between warring elites..IMO... from reading Thai History... I am not drawing any comparisons to any other nations respective histories but if you think this "Thai" brand of 'standoff' is short lived I suggest ya crack the history books a bit and start in 1932...and most of the history is written by academics and not Media mogul puppets whose concern is generating revenues and polarizing society to other devious ends...cheers

You've got a very flexible definition of proof.

If you can't connect the dots, events, patterns, history, actions, observations, reputation of the red rouge, then we will have to declare 2 plus 2 is 5 to reinvent the facts and lie to people to construct a different reality of how PTP supporters are and what they do. If they were literate, they could refer to Marx, lenin, pol pot for starters- only those guys were too clever and cunning for Thailand's red country rouge bums & slum thugs.

However you wrap it up, it's still supposition, not proof. As for your intelligent description of PTP supporters - let's just say it reveals more about you then it does them.

Not much of a bigot are you mate? ;) I'm pretty sure there's plenty of Red shirts, who you apparently seem to see as inferior to you within many of your posts, who have higher IQ's and academic qualifications also... ;) It must suck being perfect?

Just because you may have come from a priveleged and educated background, doesn't mean you have to be disrespecful to those less fortunate than your good self. I'm also pretty certain that within your own Home country, there's a degree of iliteracy amongst general population, not being able to read and write doesn't stop you from knowing a knob when you see/ meet them ;)

Those who are systematically attacking the protest leaders' homes are engaged in an endeavour to stifle dissent through fear. But what they do is expose more about themselves and the kind of people they are than anything they are attempting to highlight.
