Renewing driving licence @ Sukumvit 62, address proof.

I asked this question on the motoring forum but posters there suggested I try and seek local knowledge and any recent experience on the local forum.

I wonder if anybody has recent experience of renewing five year driving licences at Sukhumvit 62, particularly in respect of proof of address, if indeed that is required.

I don't have a work permit or yellow book, so all I have are credit card and True statements, plus my overseas bank statements, but I suspect none of these would be acceptable.

Not sure if I can get a residency certificate from the temporary Immigration Offices, so I suspect I will have to fill out the UK Embassy template and pay their ridiculous fee.

Thanks in advance for any advice based on recent experience.

Do you do 90 day reporting in Bkk?

If so go to CW, if not yet opened got to Lat Prao, they will issue IF you do 90 day reporting in Bkk.

Cost is 200 baht, sent by EMS to your address.

Yes it is still required by the staff at Suk 62.

You definitely need a residence certificate.

I had to get one last week from the British Embassy (for a different purpose) - B3,080 just to sign and stamp the form which I had filled out for them!

i'm sure you will get it from one of the temporary Immigration offices.

You will need a certificate of residence, for sure. The DLT office is between 99 and 101. Leave Bang Chak BTS station on the odd-soi side of Suk, walk toward Punawitti Sta. (Are you getting another 5-year licence or getting it for first time. If latter, you will need the (silly) medical paper that says you don't have one of the five dire diseases. You can get this at a walk-in clinic on the even-soi side, under the Bang Chak BTS. I forget which stairway.)

Edit: I thought getting one from the Canadian embassy at 1500 bt/$45 was outrageous. But $3000bt!?!?

Thanks for the responses chaps.

I went to Ladprao this morning, and ordered my certificate, their 200 Baht charge certainly beats the embassy price of 3,080 to stamp a hand written template.

Got there at 11.00, the place was pretty chaotic and the staff pretty overwhelmed, but they were certainly beavering away. I was asked if I'd done my reports there, explained that I had but not for nearly a year as I've been out the country a fair bit. The lass went and checked and got a print out of my last 90 day report, and then did the paperwork, I was out in 90 minutes.

They don't post them on any more, you have to go and collect.

I need to renew my five year licence, I assume I have to still get a bit of paper from the medical receptionist to confirm she doesn't think I have any exotic diseases.

Thanks again for the responses.
