I want to open/operate a walk-in HIV testing , small private clinic in Bangkok.

Does anyone knows what the requirements are beside employing medical staff ?

What licenses is required for this, MD, Pharmacist etc....?

Any info is appreciated, thank you.

Why do you want to do this and why are you asking this forum ? You are better off taking a well educated Thai with you to the Min.of Health. If there are perfectly good free HIV sevices about why do you want to charge for the same service ?

Maybe the guy could set-up with an atmosphere and amenities more appropriate for a romantic first-date.

That is the idea behind it, more upscale then the red cross for sure, anonymous and staff that speak several languages.

Why do people go to Bumungrad hospital when they could go to the Red cross and/or any other place for that matter ?

I have seen the private ones in Pattaya and they are doing quit good.....

Do you just wake up one morning and think...yep, thats what I wanna do...

Unfortunately no, I am not an adventurer of that kind, doing research on this for a very long time in different countries......now here in Thailand :)

Are you a fully qualified medical practitioner? Are you an HIV and aids specialist? What medical experience do you have? And I don`t mean putting a band aid on somebody who has a cut? Or are you just talking about renting or owning a premises to use as an HIV clinic?

Let me say that I became an expert due to the fact that I was confronted with a close person who became HIV, and this is 20 years ago......

I already have the professionals on my staff who are "specialized" HIV/Aids MD's here in Thailand. Financing is no problem. As a Phd this new business would be a new challenge in my life. I would run this as an NGO.......financial benefit is secondary, if at all......

First thing I would suggest is you approach the Ministry of Public Health head office for the area you intend to open this clinic.

There is a department that approves and regulates medical practices for their area. They will guide you on what is required.

Your premises will need to be inspected by them and licenced.

You will need to submit the medical qualifications for all medical staff be they Doctors, Pharmacist, Nurses etc. The department will check those qualifications and licence the staff. I believe this licence to practice is province specific. If the staff are licenced in another province and move to a new province they will require a licence to practice for the new province.

If you are talking of foreign medical staff there may be a lot more involved to obtain licences to practice in Thailand. You will also have other issues like work permits etc.

Best of luck in your venture.

Thank you very much for this valuable feedback, I appreciate your time for this reply!

This is really out of my depth, but it`s certainly a wonderful thing if you can pull this off.

What about contacting some well established HIV and aids charity organisations? Especially if you already have the infrastructure in place, I am sure they would jump at the chance to help you set this up and probably arrange all the paper work and formalities for you.

I think go into partnership with Dr BJ's on Suk Soi 7/1, they've got a classy ambiance, and your target market's flowing through there like crazy already. . .

Flowing? More like spurting. Or dribbling maybe. Heaven forbid dripping though!

It is unethical to offer clinical tests for HIV without providing free counseling and social resources to those subjects who may test positive.

Does your business plan include such a service?

Note that outside of a hospital, medical tests are subject to a quasi cartel. Despite the different names and the clinics that abound, many of the tests are run by the same company. Be prepared to deal with the blowback.

Maybe move north. I have been told that they don't test for everything in Chiang Mai. One or two STDs are common in Thailand, but only BKK tests for them.

OP if you would be kind enough to explain your signature.

As noted the test is a small part of the patients overall well being, if you're here to push meds then I suggest you'll face resistance on many fronts, a drug approved abroad can take up to 10 + years to be approved in another country. If your pushing a new and improved version of willow bark you'll be locked up and rightly so.

I have first hand knowledge and practical experience in the testing facility requirements, trust me when I say, in the west your pushing an 800 pound elephant up a steep hill, here with very deep pockets and the right connections you may be able to pull it off.

Maybe you should contact Dr, Phillppe Seur in Pattaya who has been doing similar for a very long time (but not upscale more for poor thais)

http://www.heartt2000.org/

I am sure he can provide some basic information related to every aspect of your new adventure.

Any Thai qualified MD knows how to open a clinic and if not knows where to obtain the required information.

Why are are you asking questions here?

errrr.... maybe because this is a forum where people can ask for help.... DUH!

Sorry that was a bit harsh, but "why are you asking on this forum?" the reason is obvious, and that's not a nice attitude to take when someone is asking for genuine information advice, and also on the subject of helping sick and distressed people.

You have been misinformed.

The OP wants to set up a fee paying service for something that is widely available as a free service, - because there is money to be made. Nothing wrong with that in principle, but this is not a humanitarian gesture to respond to the growing problem of HIV in Thailand. The motivation behind this is not clear.
