Popular Post Fiddlesticks
For those who live in CR province, there is a place where you can get fresh, organic (free from pesticides) strawberries that look and taste like strawberries are supposed to and not the white, sour, hard stuff that you find in the markets or roadside stands. An acquaintance told me of this place which is on the main road heading to Mae Sai from CR. It is a little bit of a challenge to find but if you drive about 5 kilometers north of the Mae Chan Tesco Lotus, on the left side of the road will be a minor road that takes you to the tea plantation. Just before this road there are a few signs announcing this the strawberry farm. Once you turn left off the main road you will see signs clearly leading you to the location. When I first visited the farm, the owner greeted us and showed us around. As you can see from the photos, the strawberries are grown with great care and elevated above the ground on irrigated beds of straw so these pampered berries never touch the dirt! You are not permitted to pick your own but you simply place and order in advance and his staff will hand pick your order and have it ready the next day. (I believe you can simply phone in your order and then pick it up when it is ready.) A pack of berries cost 300 baht for 500grams. A little pricy but every berry is beautiful, ripe and very tasty. He also sells strawberry jam that is made without sugar and pectin and is 100% strawberry! It is so great to eat on toast in the morning or to put on ice cream! Anyway, here are some photos that I took today. If you LOVE GOOD strawberries, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place! And, NO, I am in no way-shape-or-form related or vested in this operation or with the owner, I simply miss eating real strawberries like I used to get in the US. The name and number of the farm: Looking from the shop over to the berry patch: Images of the berry patch: Images of the finished product ! ! ! !

Fiddlesticks
Thanks fro sharing. Could you provide a Google Map link, if possible? Cheers Garry Hey Garry, I am a neophyte when it comes to Google Maps. I included the name and phone number of the farm in one of the photos. I know they have a Facebook page with a map insert but I do not type Thai. Hope you can and will find the map you are looking for. Stix

stoli
What a great link. Thanks for sharing. Back in the states for three weeks next month. Going to consume all of the strawberries that I can while there. Maybe start some here next season. When should I plant them in Pattaya. Any knowledge? Haven't a clue since I am a devourer of the berries and not the grower. However, if you look on the farming forum, there is a recent thread and one member speaks of growing a patch on his property. You should check that out. Also a very good forum for all questions and info on growing things in LOS.
sceadugenga
If you can find the plants strawberries are easy to grow, a raised garden or even large pots in a sunny position and watered well.

I am aware of that. Have grown hundreds of the plants in the states. What I find interesting that even though the weather is warm here all year long, there is still a season in which they grow. I was just wondering when the planting season starts. Probably too late to start now since the season has already been going for over a month now. I want to be ready next year. The farm I visited begins selling their berries in February. Sorry can't be much more help than that.
Sandman77
There are many diffrent types of strawberry trees not all of them are deli ices ! Also when the strawberry looks optical perfect does not mean good or not! One time I bought directly from the monks in Chiang May but was absolutely tasteless same The strawberries in genthing highland Malaysia I was also disappointed of there Berry taste including the teas! sceadugenga
Unfortunately, like most fruit and vegetable, selective planting has been designed to produce large fruit, a plentiful crop and as close to year round production as possible, usually with considerable loss of flavour. Tomato growers will know exactly what I'm talking about.
