Electronic bracelets to keep convicted cabbies, tour guides out of airport
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Samut Prakan District Court is eyeing the possibility of using electronic monitoring (EM) bracelets to keep taxi drivers and tour guides who were previously convicted for deceiving foreigners out of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Department of Probation chief Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol said after the District Court of Northern Bangkok was successful in using EM bracelets to monitor those on probation for drunk driving, Samut Prakan District Court's chief justice Awiruth Chanchaikittikorn hopes to do the same with illegal cabbies and tour guides.

Ruenvadee said three agencies - the Samut Prakan District Court, Department of Probation and Airports Authority of Thailand - would discuss the possibility of using EM bracelets on those who had previously been charged of deceiving and harassing tourists. The EM bracelet usage would also be demonstrated in the meeting, she added.

Often wondered about these things... how long does the battery last?

What is to keep the taxi drivers and scammers from "forgetting" to plug them in and charge them at bedtime? Once the batteries are dead, it would be business as usual for these guys.

more likely is they will simply congregate everywhere else like they do anyway.

the airport isnt the only place these vermin abuse the very source of their income!

6 months suspended sentence for 1st (next) offence plus 36 months licence suspension

12 months jail for 2nd offence plus full licence cancellation

MP position & national immunity for 3rd offence.

or just beat the absolute shit out of them until they scream, probably before the first punch!

Peeee KruB!!!! PeEEEEe NaaaA!!

Chuai Duai!!!!

MunMunMun Mai Fair Na!!!

Tum Maiiiiiiiiiiiiii.....

Mew Mew Mew etc

Lame brain idea and hard to implement, just make sure that all cabbies and

tour guide that enter the arrival/departure halls will be vetted just like the

passengers do.. check their ID against any known data base, yes, there will

be fake ID's but you can't win them all...

Far simpler to shoot them out the back with the birds?

You might think this kind of radical solution is far fetched- but really is it?

Think about it for a minute...

Copy the Singaporean model, government owned taxis that cabbies can rent. If they break the rules, refuse passengers, etc. they will lose their licence and can not get their hands on a taxi anymore. Simple and effective, just a touch more expensive!

Sounds great . BUT government owned taxis would be worse. People would ripped off even worse .

Great idea!

And if they are caught at the airport, they can pay tea money to the police, yup. The terrifying threat of an electronic bracelet will lead to post traumatic stress disorder and emotional scarring on the tender psyches of BKK cabbies.

I suggest the District Court should tackle the issues of appropriate punishment for perps and law enforcement instead of providing a way out and another income stream for the BiB. But then we get this scenario: Bracelet vs. Headache...Bracelet vs. Headache...Bracelet vs. Headache..., hmmm: BRACELET wins (!) clap2.gif

Yes, lets take the braclet concept, (monitor/limit travel away from disignated living/home site) and propose a complete bass ackwards intent for the device and the intial restriction on the individuals travel.

wow 2 the computer is keen!

Deleted word in Latin: damnatio.

I had no idea that was a banned word.

I stand religiously corrected.

WOW! Great idea....

But ACTIONS Not words....

Many times there is a narrow line between "Easy going nature"

And "Don't give a <deleted> - as long as it don't make me work more..."

Good opening here for a Shinawatra taxi co

How about putting them in jail for 1 year? Would they or their friends effectively dare to return?

Any law or rule is just as strong as the punishment you get when you don't follow it.

That's the explanation why laws don't seem to work in Thailand.

Every taxi driver or pseudo tour guide are part of TAT's FACE value tools, so of course they cannot let Amazing Thailand lose face....

Jails and prisons are just for the poor and the clueless ripped of Falang...

There is graft opportunity in purchasing and administering electro-bracelets. That is the only reason this is being proposed ....

How will you know if they have gone to the airport ans if they cut the bracelet off what happens?

If a law can not be enforced, or isn't enforced it is a waste of time from the outset

While this might sound attractive, keep in mind that the true motivation is probably the sale of the monitoring bracelets and collection of monitoring fees. Any benefit to society would be secondary.

Would these government owned taxis be as well maintained as the government owned buses?

Ankle monitors/bracelets are high-tech and use lithium-ion, latest generation batteries. No need to "plug them in" at bedtime. They send a signal to the monitoring station in the event of low battery, tampering or mechanical/software problems.

The are designed for months upon months of wear before the batteries need servicing.
