just took delivery a few weeks ago of my new mazda cx5 , got a little daughter and would like to fit a screen or 2 in the back for her , i asked at car audio shop and guy recommened 2 in the headrests rather than 1 flip down screen

does anyone have any experience as to which one would be best ?

I have both types - the overhead screen never has issues with sunlight coming through a window and washing it out, and the one screen can be enjoyed by all back seat occupants. The big downside is rear visibility obstruction.

Typical cheap aftermarket headrest screens have poor brightness to begin with, so are even more effected by the sun washout problem than better quality (and lots more expensive) OEM headrest screens some makes offer..

However, that all said, in the past 1.5 years or so, our kids don't watch any of the car screens anymore... Partly because all new movies we buy are bluray not DVD (and I'm too busy to try and convert to another format), Partly because no matter how good the car screen you buy, it's nowhere near the picture quality of what the kids are used to watching at home on our flat panels or on their Apple devices, and finally Partly because social networking has taken over a lot of what used to be their TV time.

In short, I would never do roof mounted or headrest screens again.. but I would consider headrest iPad mounts smile.png

Totally agree. Have the overhead screen in the Pajero and almost never used it. The Ipad or Ipad mini with a wireless hard drive is what we in the family use now on long car journeys. Plus it can play multiple movies on multiple Ipads at the same time.

My kids each have a tablet.

They can load movies and cartoons for a long journey, play games on it and take pictures when we go somewhere interesting.

Thanks for this topic, I have been considering putting in something for my two sons but perhaps your are correct, iPad or similar is probably better way to go.

Curious - what wireless HDD are you using in the car? Assume it must create a wifi access point and also handle DLNA or Airplay streaming?

There's not as many accessories for Galaxy tabs, but they are out there... if you're in BKK go to MBK. If not, hit up google.co.th and ebay.com

It's a Seagate GoFlex Satellite wireless hard drive. It does create a wifi access point for Ipads or smart phones to connect directly to it. Acts like a cloud base storage :)
