Police commander transferred in wake of Phuket dive 'extortion'

Featured Replies

"Col Krittapas was unable to control his crew thoroughly" - so why wasn't he demoted, or fired? He's either corrupt, incompetent, or both.

In all fairness, try firing a police officer in the USA. Regardless of the offense, the Police Unions will fight every punishment, no matter the severity.

Why wasn't the crew suspended or arrested? The whole thing is just laughable. I hope the much talked about reforms that the opposition is harping on will include the police, which is a police force like no other.

It's a difference on shaving and cutting off your head. Comparing the police in USA and Thailand in this regard is just stupid.

"Crew" an interesting description.

A crew is a body or a class of people who work at a common activity, generally in a structured or hierarchical organization.

BUT it can also mean:

Crew is used colloquially to refer to a small, tight-knit group of friends or associates engaged in criminal activity

Just saying.

Reading between the lines it appears that the Major General knows that this is bribe taking has been taking place ( and probably getting a cut), so to save face, he needs to show he is being tough on crime (committed by the bib), by arranging the transfer from the gravy train Chalong police to the not as profitable Thalang posting.

Pol Maj Gen Ong’art Peiwruangnon, Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, yesterday (April 1) transferred Col Krittapas Dasintharasorn from Chalong to Thalang and ordered the head of Thalang Police Station, Pol Col Sirisak Wasasiri, to take over in Chalong.

One Col. has had his time at the big trough so it is time to give the second Col. his turn. It's just a normal shuffle.coffee1.gif

Don't think so, not now.

Some people have started playing hardball, forcing the corruption agency to be seen taking action.

No doubt the police is not happy with this and there will be a backlash.

True and the "backlash" has already started............."Checks begin on foreigners working in the Phuket dive industry".

Didn't take long.

A certain dive company started this mass employment of foreigners years ago.....up to 80 I heard in the high season.

And with latest controversy, no wonder these are targeted now.
