China's President Xi urges greater military use of space

BEIJING: -- Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the air force to adopt an integrated air and space defence capability, in what state media on Tuesday called a response to the increasing military use of space by the United States and others.

While Beijing insists its space programme is for peaceful purposes, a Pentagon report last year highlighted China's increasing space capabilities and said Beijing was pursuing a variety of activities aimed at preventing its adversaries from using space-based assets during a crisis.

Fears of a space arms race with the United States and other powers mounted after China blew up one of its own weather satellites with a ground-based missile in January 2007.

A detailed analysis of satellite imagery published in March provided additional evidence that a Chinese rocket launch in May 2013, billed as a research mission, was actually a test of a new anti-satellite weapon.

China is the new Nazi Germany. I can see the Chinese starting World War III in the next 10 - 15 years with Putin as the 21st Century Mussolini who helps them out.

That's like saying wal mart wants to start world war 3 against its customers. Unless demand for chinese goods collapses, that will never happen.

I'm trying to think of a good policy put forth by President Xi - and can't think of one.

He's maintaining the ownership of Tibet, and pointing hundreds of missiles at Taiwan. He's upping the ante in the S.China Sea. Now he's planning to militarize space. Can we look forward to a Chinese military outpost on the Moon? Or a take-over of Mongolia? ....or SE Asia? He can do it like Chairman Mao did with Tibet. Roll in the tanks and military, with red flags everywhere, while a thousand men are announcing over bullhorns; "We are here to bring you modernity. Welcome us. We are here to help you. Resistance is futile. You will like us, we promise. "

China doesn't need to actually fight a war. It will OWN most of the world in 20 years.

One big game of Mahjong.

More likely that the western Hawks will panic and start the war...

that sounds suspiciously like the U.S. in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

It will own most of SE Asia b4 2 long. They've got buddies with Chinese-Thai Shinawatre and other Thais in high places. All those folks love the idea of a 2.2 trillion baht train going from Bangkok to China - which will definitely speed up the transition towards Thailand becoming "Thailand Autonomous Region" or TAR.

The US went to Afghanistan to kick Al Qaeda's butt, and also banish the Taliban who were harboring them (and tormenting their own women). As for Iraq, that's a bit fishier. Edited by boomerangutang
