problem with Youtube using Mozilla Firefox

Featured Replies

I wondered if someone with technical knowledge of Firefox would know why suddenly every single video on Youtube has become inaccessible to me?

When I use Internet Explorer there is no problem, but no matter what video I choose using Firefox it now shows an error message.

The only possible thing I can think of is I have been accessing a site almost every day via Firefox called http://bleacherreport.com to watch the Oscar Pistorius trial in South Africa and that site also uses youtube.

Is there possibly some kind of unwanted add-on using my Mozilla Firefox and is there anything I can do to identify this and remove it? My anti-virus is working and that hasn't picked anything up?

Thanks

In Tools | Add-ons | Plugins, run the "check to see if your plugins are up to date."

Also it may help to run CCleaner (get it if you don't have it) or go into Tools | Options | Advanced | Network and "Clear cached web content."

Lastly I forgot to mention that lately some have reported here that it helps to refresh the page before the video will play. Quite mysterious, but I've found myself doing that some myself!

I have the same issue, it may be related to Google (YouTube) use of scripts. You can still download the videos to view later. Use 'Download Flash & Video' from the add-ons site.

Perhaps Adobe Flash has crashed. It's bad about that with firefox. Try closing and re-opening firefox, and if that doesn't work reboot. While you're at it, make sure you have the latest version of flash.

YouYube vids run on flash, and IE seems to handle that better.

Yep, Adobe Flash and Firefox do have problems with Flash Player crashing. I've found if I start Firefox from a shortcut it always crashes, but I found if I pin Firefox to the taskbar (Windows 7) and start Firefox from the taskbar, I don't have the crash problem with Flash. I always check the flash player with http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html to see if flash is working and hasn't crashed. If you see clouds moving in the animation flash is working.

This seemed to fix the intermittent problems I was having:

If you find your Firefox has HTTPS-Everywhere extension installed, try to untick/uncheck "YouTube (partial)" via HTTPS-Everywhere Options button on Add-ons Manager tab. Make it red cross instead of green check mark.

Right after I did that, the flash plugin wanted to be updated--again. Oh, well.

Sorry for the late reply and thank you to everybody for your suggestions.

I went to Chiang Mai for a week and just totally tuned out

of the Internet during the whole visit. No computer or telephone and it was wonderful .smile.png

Anyway I will try some of the suggestions outlined in this threadwai.gif
