Steering wheel lock - Pattaya

Featured Replies

A friend who has a home on the dark side stays in an area where there have been a few car thefts/attempted thefts. I suggested that he get a steering wheel lock to use at least at night.

Anyone know where a sturdy version of the steering wheel lock is sold in Pattaya? Any idea of price? Comments on the effectiveness of these things in deterring thefts?

Thanks

I have one. Cannot remember for the life of me where I bought it: Big C or Tesco's I guess

Highly effective. One night my house got burgled and the car keys amongst other items got stolen. The car remained in the drive so I suspect the thief did not realise immediately the significance of the loot. I managed to get a set of replacement keys from the car hire company the next day but basically they wanted 7000 Baht to change the locks. I also fitted the crook lock. Went to bed the next night thinking I would be 7000 Baht out of pocket the following day when they changed the locks

Next morning found the car keys on the driveway next to the car. The thief had returned in the night, now realising the significance of the car keys stolen the night before and hoped to drive off the car, but had found the steering lock and abandoned the attempted heist, kindly returning me the car keys. (no way had I failed to spot those keys the day before! They appeared that night)

I presented both sets of keys to the car hire company who were now quite happy and said no need to change the locks

Sounds like a convincing testimonial. Thanks

30 seconds with a hacksaw and the lock is off. Cut thru the steering wheel.

At the end of the day, if they want it - it's theirs.

My Isuzu dealer fitted this for me ... he said it's as good as anything ... also stops the engine being started.

Do your research. They make cars easier to steal for a professional car thief. Scotssing's story is interesting but only proves that a good burglar doesn't necessarily make a good car thief.

Get the catalog from 7/11 they have one on page 144, about 600B

Also a lot of drivers would keep the key for the after market lock on the same ring as the car keys.
