JLCrab
T-shirt or not someone could probably take one look at you and don't even bother. BTW I ran into Woody Allen several times living in mid-town Manhattan -- you took one look at him and you realized you'd be better off pretending that you did not recognize him. transam
I do have a question for the OP Costas. Why did the strangers wife wai you ... a person she has never met before? It's a strange thing to do. A , I can understand ... but you ... It is the the norm. Happens to me all the time. "WE" are looked at as super beings from another world, a world where our world takes care of their citizens, and folk from a far that go to our farang world. Big learning curve to understand folks thoughts in LOS..........

slipperylobster
Cannot even count the snubbings I have had. Never bothered me a bit. My gal giggles.... She even thinks that if one of her friends has a farang husband, that I must automatically befriend him..... They do not look the least bit interested either. I had some ghastly false smiles and incredibly unfriendly handshakes. One guy just looked at my outstretched hand and turned away...muttering. Anyone else you bumped into? Elvis in Burger King? Sure -- lots of people. I lived near Carnegie Hall on 57th Street and you just see people out on the street. Broadway and Lincoln Center only a few blocks away. Some you say hello to -- some you can quickly note that they want to be left alone. ayayay
Do you think all white people should say hello to all other white people? chiang mai
I was in New York City's Central Park in the late 70's walking down the West Drive which was closed on a Sunday. There was a guy there sitting on a bench with his wife and young son. I said Hello! although I never stopped walking and he gave a big smile and Hello! back. The guy was John Lennon with Yoko and a young Sean. Get off the drugs JC, you've been warned before! I mean really what did you do during that "trip", go back and ask, who are you and they replied, JL/YO and son, OK!

Anyway it shows the gentle and kind side of some Thai people, compared with Mr arrogant, I met this morning. As about the sensible nice guy......Thank you......but you forgot to add hansum.

That is New York City style. Some people -- even famous people -- can be very friendly when they know a simple Hello! is all you have in mind. Popular Post seajae
it takes nothing to acknowledge someone else if they say hi unless your head is firmly too far up your own ummmmmmm, even a smile/nod would suffice but I suppose for some talking to the peasants is simply too much to accept.
Somtamnication
I think culture has a lot to do with it, life, etc. I lived for 25 years in the US. 10 of those in Memphis, southern hospitality, fried chicken, bigotry, etc etc. But most people you walk by, smile at you or say hello. Then I went on holiday to the UK (country of birth). Not one <deleted> smile, no hello, a lot of browbeating and the usual "why is he smiling at me" look. In Thailand, I do as other do: if there is eye contact, I smile or nod my head. More often than not, I get one back. NEVER from a Russian, however. To that old fart in KK, find his wife and take her out. She's a winner.

Why not just tell this to the man in person? Sack up and call him a miserable git to his face. It seems peculiar that you would take this snub so personally, internalize it, then dash home and post about on an anonymous forum. Do little things like this often cause you such distress?
