Duke's still coming to Maya?

Maya is doing great business from what I can tell. I stop by there a few times a week to visit RimPing, the basement food court, or one of the Japanese restaurants upstairs. Dukes would do great there is they ever decide to give it a try. Someone recently posted that they were at The Dukes riverside location recently and it was full of Thai and Chinese customers. I can believe that given the excellent quality of the product.

I disagree that Maya is aimed at Thais and Asian expats. Maya is aimed at shoppers, period. I also agree with the second poster. If Dukes opened in Maya I think you'd see plenty of Thais and Asian expats eating ribs and pizzas.

Maybe Dave has seen how terrible the Maya car parking situation is and thought about it again.

We have tried three times, to no avail. A real shocker, will stick with Prom, and all the Centans.

Until Dave can get his staff sorted out at all his locations I hope he doesn't try to go to Maya. Seems like every time he opens a new place the service gets a little bit more confused. Needs to solidify the service in all locations first. Have seen others commenting on this also. Have a friend who will insist on a certain waiter at the Dukes on the river. All though to be honest she might be the only one who understands his Thai. He doesn't believe tones make a difference.

i'll rephrase that. MAYA is aimed at Thais, Asian tourists and Asian ex-pats. yes of course if Dukes was there Asians would be stuffing their faces. was there the other day again. there could not have been more than 15 falangs in the entire mall. lots of Japanese....more than any other mall. Central Festival gets a lot of Hong Kong Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Malaysians and Singaporeans and lots of Bangkok Thais.

Last Sunday got a parking space but it was a nightmare trying to get out on to Huay Kaew road.

2nd and last time there for us.

Geez! With all the great restaurants within a five minute walk of Maya, I can't see why this is an issue.

there is nothing of interest within a 5 minute walk of Maya. 15-20 maybe...in the heat??? it would take about 10 minutes just to cross the intersection and be over on the Nimmanhaeman side.

What about The Pub - straight across the road? And this time of year no need to worry about the heat (just carry an umbrella).

There also looks to be an interesting selection of places at the old Think Park, though I haven't tried any to comment on the food. There's also the Harbour, they now seem to be trying phase 2 after the first places didn't make it. Again, haven't eaten anywhere there.

I've driven there once successfully but I've made many aborted attempts subsequently, all parking related.

Still waiting for some "Western lifestyle" restaurant choices....Dukes, Sizzler, New York Pizza, Riverside at the Maya, Irish Exchange, Au Bon Pain....maybe even a Thai restaurant that uses white meat chicken in their chicken curry, like Whole Earth. With all the Western Expats living within 2 km of The Maya,....go figure!

So you traveled half way around the world to live here, just for local/Asian food! laugh.png

chiang mai, can you clarify what you are trying to say?

When I lived in Germany for four years I didn't always eat German food. Same for Swiss food when I lived in Zurich for two years. I ate a lot of Spanish food the two years I was there, but not always, same for the years in Portugal, Belgium, the UK and Mexico.

Now I live in Chiang Mai. I probably eat more Burmese food than Thai food, but sometimes I eat Thai food. And sometimes western food like Dukes, Sizzler, etc.

Parking in Maya is pretty bloody awful for pick-ups and larger vehicles. Try and get there EARLY, before peak times ... eg: 1130am. Select a space adjacent to an a/c unit or ventilation fan to facilitate egress upon your departure after parallel parking blocks most ppl in!

Rimpings AJI Restaurant is worth a visit. Great food and eye-candy.

Someone on this board recommended the beef teriyaki burger at Maya Rimpings AJI. I tried it and I have to admit it was pretty darn good. I was sorely missing the french fries, though.

I consider that "unpaid ad" to be news. Aji is the home of the 59 baht breakfast special and 60 baht glasses of house wine. It's news when they decide to stage a swank 1500 baht gourmet dinner on the roof of Maya Mall.

Anybody know where Joe Malone cooks in BKK? (no google search results found). Hope the roof has a cover for rainy season!

What is AJI, the restaurant in Rimping in Maya? Or is it Aji??

yes, Aji is the Japanese restaurant right next to the entrance of Rimping MAYA. i don't know if there is a Japanese chef or if the Thai chefs have been well trained or whatever, but if so, they got this one right. food is not too fancy but well-prepared and fresh. not too expensive. one of my favorite new places. haven't tried the 59 Baht breakfast but i wouldn't go there for that. the Japanese(ish) items on the menu are really quite good.

Great taking the kids to Maya tomorrow, burgers for them and fine Japanese cuisine for me

hope you won't be disappointed.

Thanks it's quite an amusing story, I asked my Thai son where he wanted to go for his 11th Birthday Father/son outing and he said Maya. I said sure what do you want to do there, his response was "I want to go to see the toilets" TIT!!

The heading for this topic is ' Dukes still coming to Maya?' My reply, & I think many, many others is, I HOPE SO!!!

Dave's reply is not now. He is in the process of building another restaurant for Mexican food lovers.

Maybe in a couple of years.

We could use decent Mexican around here as well. Best of luck!

The toilets weren't disappointing but the meal was one of the most toilet worthy experiences I've had here. Service was absolute crap! Food sh#@!

The movie theater at Maya is very, very nice and they're doing a good job of showing the English-language movies that come to Thailand. That theater at Airport plaza always gives me a headache -- the lobby is like a carnival -- noisy, crowded, reeking of rancid squid-flavored popcorn. The theater at Maya is much more upscale.

It's very pleasant to go see a movie at Maya. Now all we need is a nice place to have dinner before or after a show at Maya. Please, please Dave. There really is NO place to have dinner at Maya. Walk around look at the restaurant options. I'm not going to pluck raw fish from a conveyor belt or cook my own dinner over a steaming pot in the middle of the table. I go out to have someone else cook my dinner. So far, the only two options we've found where you can sit in a comfortable table and have something sort-of recognizable brought to you are the restaurant in the Rim Ping grocery store and the Black Canyon coffee. That's pretty pathetic, isn't it? Dave, we need you at Maya.

You forgot KFC!

Good ole KFC before or after a movie, hard to top that...Not forgetting the large cheesy popcorn and cola type syrup drink with 90% ice...
