I have recently obtained a three (3) entry tourist visa and am now back in Thailand on the first entry.

I am aware that a 3 entry TR is good for (approx) 270 days: 60+30+60+30+60+30.

I was just reading other three entry tourist visa threads and I noted that the last re-entry to obtain the final 60 days must be made before the "enter before" date on the visa. In the other threads it is stated that this date is 6 months from the date of issue.

With this in mind I just went and got my passport to check the "enter before" date and make note it in my diary so as not to miss it.

HOWEVER, upon looking more closely at my visa there would appear to be an error.

It is a TR: No. of Entry: 3

The "date of issue" is stamped 24 APR 2014.

But the "enter before" date is stamped 23 JUL 2014.

Shouldn't the "enter before" date be SIX months after the date of issue (Not 3 months)?

What problems will this cause?

Is my visa still valid for 6 months even though the enter before date is only 3 months after the date of issue?

Does this mean that I must use all three entries prior to 23 JUL 2014.

If anyone can shed any light on this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

I am very worried that they have essentially issued me a 3 entry tourist visa where all of the entries must be used within 3 months.

Regards

Where did you get the visa? If Laos 90 days is all they do for all tourist visas no matter how many entries.

You have to do all the entries prior to the enter before date.

Per above, if from Laos or a neighbouring country it is not an error.

If it is from a consulate in a western country it might be an error. In that case you can try to have the stamp fixed at the consular department of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Wow...devastating news. So even though I have a 3 entry visa it is only good for 6 months.

All you can get from it is a total of 6 months stay.

For all intents and purposes the 3rd entry is worthless unless you want to do a border hop instead of getting the 30 day extension for the first entry..

Wow...what a complete disaster. Time, money, and effort...

When I received the visa I just checked that it was stamped for 3 entries. Didn't even think to look at the enter before date. The dates of my confirmed flights (that I submitted with my application) are in month 7.

I reviewed all of the 3 entry tourist visa threads prior to making my application. Perhaps you would like to pin this thread to warn others so that they do not fall into the same trap that I have.

If you applied in Laos you didn't need the tickets to get the visa they don't ask for them.

It has been discussed in various topics about the 3 entry visa only having 90 days.

Bali is the only place to get a 3 entry with 6 months validity.

p.s - I carried out a quick search (which you could have easily done) and came up with this post (among many) http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/530855-double-entry-tourist-visa-from-vientiane-laos-trip-report/?p=5033147

The thread you linked to does not contain one single post about a 3 entry tourist visa.

Before this thread gets derailed any further by the likes of Totster, the issue that I fell victim to is as follows:

Some 3 entry tourist visas are issued with 6 months validity, and some are issued with 3 months validity.

If you have a 3 entry visa that has only 3 months validity, it is quite useless as it is only good for a six month stay.

I would be happy for UJ or any other member to kindly show me where this issue has been discussed previously.

While sympathizing with the OP, a 3 month 3-entry tourist visa is useful to a tourist who may be planning trips to Angkor Wat or other neighboring countries and not just for someone looking for an extended stay in Thailand.

No, but that post mentions that certain consulates like Vientiane only issue tourist visas with a validity of 90 days, which was what you were asking for.

One wonders why you didn't check the visa when it was issued. I always do this.

Is it really "devastating" and a "complete disaster"???

I'm not sure I understand how this really changes anything. You have to leave the country at the end of 3 months to activate the 2nd entry and you thought you were going to leave at the end of 6 months to activate the 3rd entry. instead, when you leave at the end of 6 months you will return with a visa exempt entry that will give you another 15 or 30 days.

You don't say when in month 7 you're leaving or what country you are from. This sounds like an incredibly minor problem. And one that you should have known about.

^^ op thought he could use all 3 entries in full (as in full 2 months + extension per entry) and indeed he can't.

i get my triple entries in the west. these are valid 6 months.

op should do the math with his current options and be creative... it's not the end of the world except for the disappointment since OP was expecting another scenario.

In March I got a double entry TR from New York good until September (6 Months). I asked for a triple and was politely told "no way"

Posted

I wonder what the issue with triples is. It's not like you don't have to pay more for it in the 1st place and leave the country to use each entry in the 2nd place anyway.

Posted

In the scheme of things, no big deal. Just make another visa run to the country of your choice to get the extra 60+30

or back to Laos to get a double entry visa. A pain in the rear maybe but hardly a disaster, try too keep things in perspective. whistling.gif

Has anyone had any recent success (since Nov 2013) getting aTR with 6-mo validity anywhere in the US?

I will be going back to the states in June .I'm looking to come back to SN in September .I have been coming to Thailand

with 3 entries visa's for the last 3 years with my last triple via Boston through the mail which was just under the new ruling(no visa's through the mail) in August 2013, so I'll be doing my research next month,if you come up with something please post it

I will do the same. Chok D

...and the 6-mo validity part of my question?

As far as I know, you can still mail in applications to the regular consulates, just not the honoraries. (But I think some are saying at least some of the honoraries are still accepting mail-ins). Anyway, am mainly interested in knowing if 6-mo validities can be had. For my next trip I'll settle for the double wi 90-day validity if I have to, but would prefer a triple with 6 months: I DOUBT that's possible from any of the regular consulates.
