I am trying to seek out some info re Local Administration fees or rates for a property . My wife owns a small Guest House and it appears that the Administration ( council ) has asked her what is her yearly gross income

From the rooms and from this they have calculated she owes 75000 baht per annum . Which was solely calculated for 4 months ( high Season ) .this amount is roughly a quarter of her gross takings for this period plus she has expenses to operate the property . This to me is excessively high . She objected to this amount and them they reduced it to 30000 baht PA. Sorry but I assume this is for rates but I am getting a bit lost because of her interpretation because of language difficulties in explaining exactly what it is for .

If it is for rates why would they base this on the number of guests she has . Where I come from property rates are based solely on the property value .

She has always payed income tax separately to the government based on her profit and this is about a sixth of what the Local Administration charged .

If anyone can throw some light on this matter I would appreciate you help . Cheers

This sounds like some sort of corruption to me. If the rules say she owed 75,000 they wouldn't just reduce it to 30,000 on a whim.

Someone is trying to scam you. Where exactly is this in Thailand ?

I think it is a business tax. It is based on the money you take in. Your wife made the mistake of telling them the truth. No one else does, they always low ball it. They probably lowered the rate to what the average guess house owner was paying, but in reality they charge whatever they want. Sit down with them, bring out a bottle of Black and discuss with them what you think a fair rate would be.
