Taking over TV stations.

Insisting only their mantra may be broadcast.

Suthep really must be put away, he is really pushing as hard as he can to incite violence.

Army, police, somebody, do your job!

TBH when you have national TV stations that are being vetted by someone like Charlerm as to what they can broadcast to the public - I understand exactly where they are coming from

It seemed obvious to me a few days ago that the media was being heavily censored by the government, all media should be reporting the news as it happens without bias or control from anyone and that includes the government and Charlerm

Seems like both sides got their 'wisdom' from the same source:

Pity CAPO didn't station that many Police around the Constitutional Court the other day when "Nick" the unbiased German reporter got "assaulted" whilst the Police saw nothing, heard nothing and did nothing . . . might have prevented it from happening . . . but then the red shits wouldn't have had their manufactured controversy and outrage for the day I guess . . . I guess Thai's wearing masks in the presence of the Police isn't so unusual anymore either and they just ignored them . . . som nom na smile.png

You forgot the speech marks on "unbiased"

Bad luck that Nick chap, lucky that Khaosod are always willing to listen to his story. giggle.gif

Suthep did the same when he was in charge of the government. Taking over TV stations, broadcasting only his mantra. And did make the Army do A job, which ended in bloodbath.

I thought he said if this final push did not work,he would give up,now he has changed this to they will use other methods,to be honest i think he has been at this so long now he is addicted to it and cannot stop.

>> CAPO also threatened to take legal action against the executives of any TV stations that agreed to follow requests by the PDRC, such as broadcasting its statements or stopping broadcasts of CAPO announcements.<<

That truly sucks. How very biased and one sided is that? Of course they should allow open televised debates and an equal balance of statements from all sides as that helps educate the people into making the correct decisions when it comes to voting in a referendum or general election. What is important is, as with UK TV, that ALL sides get and equal air time given to them by the national TV broadcasters and only prosecution for the broadcaster executives IF they do not show that requisite balanced equal peak viewing air time for all sides in their programming. This is one area where the UK get it right so CAPO should look there for sensible guidance in this matter but please ONLY this matter as the UK (or USA) is NOT a good example of true democracy at all !!!

The UK has a crappy electoral system of First Past The Post so nobody should look to the UK for guidance as to true democracy as that UK (and I believe undemocratic USA too) system produces minority supported landslide Governments, so disgusting and undemocratic and why crap leaders like Thatcher got into Government with her party only polling 42% at best of the national vote and even Blair only got just over 50% once in his three election victories and yet Thatcher and Blair got landslide victories. Democracy ?? No bloody way and fair minded democratic person can such such a flawed system !!!!!!!!!!

Suthep to announce 'Thailand's solution' at Government House at 4 pm

BANGKOK: -- Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, will make an announcement of the country's solution at the Government House at 4 pm Saturday, PDRC leader Satit Wongnongtoey said.

Satit called on the PDRC's supporters to gather at the Government House to hear Suthep's speech.

Suthep stayed inside the Government House's compound Friday night. Satit said Suthep would spend no more than three nights at the Government House and the PDRC would win the "final fight".

Suthep's threats, ultimatums and pressuring of the media are despicable.

No "buts." Nothing to do with democracy.

He's not asking the media to give his ideas equal broadcasting time, but rather to be the only view aired.

He's not offering a compromise, but rather "My way or the highway".

Abhisit is one to cite bombings as example government cannot handle the situation.

Don't recall his government faring much better.

Interesting that once again CAPO isn't warning off those mysterious people with bad-intentions,

but rather calls on citizens not to attend. Almost like the weatherman - "it's gonna be rainy, folks, so better stay put".

Same with CAPO threats towards the media - did CAPO provide any protection or security from the PDRC?

Does CAPO expect the media to play the hero or what?

What a load of shameless useless people leading both sides.

First of all the CAPO has made exactly the same to the media.

Second what idea is it to give equal time to criminals and murder and compromise?

Suthep Demands Unelected Prime Minister

By Khaosod Eng.

BANGKOK — Anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban is demanding the Senate and courts seek Royal Approval for an unelected Prime Minister.

Mr. Suthep, the firebrand leader of the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD), voiced his demands during yesterday’s "Final Battle," in which thousands of anti-government demonstrators took to the streets and besieged nearly all state-owned TV stations and important government buildings in Bangkok.

In a speech last night, Mr. Suthep insisted that the government has ceased to exist since ex-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was ousted by the Constitutional Court on Wednesday.

"Today Thailand has no government, and Thailand is not in the state to form a government," Mr. Suthep said. "It's a headless ghost."

He dismissed the Cabinet's appointment of a new PM, former Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisarn, calling it illegal and meaningless.

According to Mr. Suthep, the only solution for Thailand is to replace the remaining Cabinet with an unelected one, chaired by a PM appointed by His Majesty the King.

The PCAD leader called on the newly-elected Senate Speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai to urgently "consult" with other Senators to agree on a candidate for the premiership and submit the name to His Majesty the King for his Royal Approval. Mr. Surachai is an appointed member of the Senate - which is half elected, half appointed - who is thought to be sympathetic to the anti-government cause.

Mr. Suthep also urged top judges of various courts, along with the chairman of the Election Commission (EC), to meet with the Senators and provide them with advice concerning the choice for unelected PM.

"Tomorrow is Saturday, but you must work. You must not rest. You must urgently meet with each other to proceed with these [instructions]," Mr. Suthep said.

He added, "I would like to humbly address the puuyai [elders] that they must choose someone who is honest, uncorrupt, and loyal to the country. Don't pick anyone from any political party to be Prime Minister, because the Great Mass of the People will not accept it."

Mr. Suthep stressed that his demands should not be interpreted as any sort of ultimatum or intimidation, as he was simply relaying the will of the people to the establishment.

"I would like to humbly inform you that the Great Mass of the People has been fighting for over six months now. We cannot wait any longer. This thing has to end by Monday. If you don't do it, or if you can't do it, don't be angry at me, because the people will take matters into their own hands," Mr. Suthep warned.

Pro-government supporters have repeatedly threatened a massive "resistance" if Mr. Suthep's demands for unelected Prime Minister are accepted by the establishment.

More of the same. One thing is certain though: Nothing will be final this weekend. Yet things might get very nasty if the reds manage to turn up in large numbers. Chances are Jatuporn will not succeed in that. Comforting thought is that Chalerm stays on as CAPO boss. Means the police will not do anything significant.

There's alway time for another final final final final push from the crazy one. Perhaps he should just tag a day each fortnight for a "final push" - it could be a regular event on the BKK calendar and TOT could even sell it as a tourist event, followed up by a tour of the Mickey Mouse courts.

Either way, it would be ideal if he could start the day's final push after 9am and get it over over by midday so people can get out of their offices for lunch.

The odd thing about this is trying to bring down the government. There is no leader to this government. My view is that the caretaker government has no authority to appoint an acting prime minister. The CC didn't name one so there is none.

I challenge anyone to show me where in the constitution this is legal. I will make it easy for you. The link is to an unofficial translation of the 2007 Constitution. For our purposes, show me the money!

" The government's Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) warned of possible attacks at night against the protesters occupying the different locations. A group of people with ill intentions will attack those participating in the protests at different locations. The public are advised to use discretion when participating in such gatherings for your own safety," CAPO said in a statement. "

For those that defend CAPO's announcements, read this quote very carefully. This is the kind of " quality " that these announcements have. The fact that they can be so bold as to predict that the protesters would be attacked - with the unambiguous phrase " will attack " - is extremely suspicious, to say the least. How do they know ? If they are so certain, why don't they tell the public what they know ? Is this the Centre of the Administration of Peace and Order that people are to have trust and confidence with ?

CAPO's surreal announcements are no longer transmitted on Channels 3, 5, 7, and Thai PBS. They still transmit on Channel 9. Briefly, they were able to find a circuitous route to Channel 11's signal, but that was short-lived. The CAPO narrative is therefore reaching a diminishing audience. But it's not just a question of narrative. The Pheu Thai administration simply have run out of all practical, legal, and constitutional options.

Amazing. A thread about Thailand turned into a rant against the UK (and USA).

What's your suggestion then genius? Proportional representation that produces minority governments reliant on coalition partners and ends up delivering zilch after all the squabbling and division of the spoils? A one party dictatorship, a democracy like Zimbabwe or Cambodia?

By the way, the UK was the sick man of Europe, virtually ruined by the ineffective Heath and weak union dominated Callaghan governments. The latter was a good example of a government voted in but who then allowed someone else, namely the unions, to dictate policy. Thatcher was needed to counter act and clean all their <deleted> out. But, as often happens she started going too far. Blair, seemed the sensible, middle of the road choice to many. At least he wasn't dictated to by the unions - another example of undemocratic organizations being dominated by extremists with their own agendas.

It's not in the Constitution. It's in the Cabinet rules, supported by another law, the name of which I've forgotten.

In the case of the absence of the PM (sick or other incapacitated for example, then the most senior (they're ranked) available Deputy acts on the PM's behalf.

The powers of the acting PM are not the same as those of the PM.

If the PM is temporarily unavailable, fair enough.

The question arises: How can someone act for a PM when there is no PM?

In the case of the death of the PM, there can be no acting PM and all Cabinet Ministers consequently vacate office en masse. (the Constitution bit).

Irrespective of ones views, red or yellow, they are all an example of recycled human excrement anyway, the real solution is over flying the area and spraying toilet duck, it cleans and removes the cr*p in my toilet so may have similar effects to the dross that is currently circulating on BKK streets in full view of the world press.

Army coup, forge it, most informed people already know the 3rd army are unwilling to support it. The decades/centuries old regime of raping the country and keeping the poor poor, uneducated uneducated is dead, Modern social networks saw to that. It is about time that reality is understood and all parties start working together in a humane an intelligent way to not only resolve the current crisis but put Thailand on the path of significant emergence within ASEAN. The average Thai person is not only capable but worthy of that. Unfortunately the dr*ss on the streets neither represents the poor or the elite. They have their own utterly corrupt agenda, yellow or red. If these morons on either side continue as they are they will play right into the hands of the muslim extremists in the South, now with their connections they ( reds and yellows) will both really be in deep poo

Nice cherry pick. Would you agree it sucks equally that Suthep has said a very similar thing to television stations?

BTW, this isn't a debate or an election.

Your suggestion that Thailand seek advice from a foreign country on how best to run Thailand, is amusing.

Catterwall, I respect you taking this on and accept that somewhere you read it's OK for a Deputy PM to succeed an incapacitated PM. However, we are discussing a Caretaker PM that has been incapacitated due to a Constitutional Court's decision against. The indictment on the following day, for our purposes, is academic. It is a different argument.

Go back to your source documents and see if it covers a Caretaker government. So far, the analysts I read aren't even touching this.

To a big extent, many are waiting on the CC's written opinion to see what it covers.

He did not seize the TV channels (yet).

He doesn't pretend to act in the name of the King. But he tells that he can choose a PM and give the document to the King. Which is a heavy thing in Thailand.

But well I prefer Suthep over Thaksin....Thaksin you can't get rid off anymore. Sutheps reform government will be only for 1 year. So even if it is bad it is just for a limited time.

And when you look at the last coup government. In its acting and listening to the people it was more democratic than all the elected governments. So what is the point of electing a government if it acts later like a dictator?

Well he is popular with 95 % of the south.

He is popular with the Bangkok middle class.

He is popular with people who are in one kind victim from Thaksin...Thaksin killed a lot people and cheated even more. That gives Suthep a lot base that supports him. All my staff here goes to the demonstrations and at least donate a little bit and that are ordinary people from the South.
