Senate deputy speaker told to meet Thaksin for help

The longer this drags on, the clearer it becomes who really wields the power in Thai politics and government. It is clearly NOT the people or the Parliament, or Senate, or the ruling party - but something else that people dare not mention because of fear. In that case, you wonder - what type of government does Thailand really have?

In the mean time, Vietnam, the Republic of the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos PRD and the Union of Myanmar are licking their chops waiting for all hell breaking loose in Thailand...

Why should a fugitive convicted criminal be consulted?
He should be brought back here and thrown in jail where he belongs. Then things could certainly move forward without him interfering.

things cannot move forward with the old aristocrat elite interfering.

Things aren't moving forward with the new aristocrat elite running what's left of the government.

It should now become obvious to all ThaiVisa readers who the real opposing power brokers are. Thaksin(Red) Prem(Yellow) wai2.gif

Maybe a level up? Which we can't discuss here.

The opposite is the reality. The longer this crisis drags on, the clearer it becomes that no one wields power: it's a power vacuum.

Thailand has almost ridden itself of a rotten to the core mob.

I know it doesn't seem a good idea to formerly talk to the fugitive criminal but he's still the one calling the shots from the PTP & red shirt side (& has been for the last 2 & a half years). But talking to him & maybe Abhisit - together (via Skype of however) - is worth a shot as it can hardly make things any worse.

I do agree that jaw, jaw is much better than war, war.

Well he's already had a private meeting with suthep behind closed doors. Still, good to see him referred to with his proper title.

You know very well that any talks that include and amnesty for Thaksin will not be accepted by the Thai people. So what's the point of talking to a fugitive crook who caused the problem in the first place?

I'm sure they are.

Vietnam, for example, must be grateful for the turmoil the new aristocrat elite government created in the rice scam that assisted with their advancing past Thailand in rice exports.

It looks like you and others are discussing it, though.

Mango bob must have missed the part where Abhisit said he would not enter himself this time. .

Anyway no matter how much I detest the idea of talking with a convicted criminal, it might be the only way out. Problem is talking to this un elected figure would have it so that Jatuporn and Suthep would like to have their say too.

Its either all or only elected people. That would bring us back to the two largest parties. Tough choice.

Governments around the world do deals with repugnant terrorists all the time.

"will not be accepted by the Thai people"

When you say the Thai people, are you referring to a small minority or a minority or a substantial minority or half the population or a simple majority or a large majority or an overwhelming majority or 100% of all Thais?

It's very, very important for me to know as whether I or my wife pays for dinner tonight hinges on your "fact".

A year or so ago the odds were in his favour, but then it was iffy. Now my gut feeling is he would NEVER have a majority.

So many facts are out in the open on many government mega blunders, with him constantly interfering in the PTP cabinet decisions.

I get the general feeling that more and more Thais are sick of this control freak. He should be blocked out, enabling reform to happen, then elections when all has been stabilized.

Thaksin is akin to a fading rock and roll star. He's got a lot of long time, die hard fans who will always love him for the way he was back in his heyday but to most he's no longer relevant.

Not a bad idea. At least someone is thinking outside the box. But the only real solution to this problem is elections first and than reforms, than new elections. But Suthep and Abhisit are not smart enough to understand this. They are power hungry and will do anything to be PM.

You may find that in that scenario, the 'reforms' part will be conveniently forgotten by the winning party...

Reform this lousy police force for a starters.

It doesn't matter whether it's a majority or minority....it depends on who the players are. Thousands of police don't dare arrest the monk or Suthep, even though most times they are just surrounded by a few guards. They could easily be captured, but the consequences of this are well known, and police don't dare to even attempt it. This is a sandpit just for the big boys, and the common people get pushed around like pawns. I wait for the day these pawns wake up to this fact (on BOTH sides).
