NamKangMan
It's usually cheaper to get a return than to get single tickets. I'll double check but that's my experience. Not really. Not when you take into account the extra side flight and waiting around another airport. It sounds like you should be looking at Australia to Phuket - Phuket to U-Tapao (Pattaya) - taxi to Bangkok - Bangkok to Australia. Or, the other way around. y2k
As a quick reference I checked with Kayak and get these prices: For 14-21 June, per - bkk (taxi and stay a few days in pataya) then bkk - hkt - per is $956AUD with Thai per - hkt - utp (stay a few days in pataya then taxi to bkk) then bkk - per is $1600 with Malaysian / Bangkok Air Whereas, per - bkk - per is $433AUD plus bkk - hkt - bkk is $150AUD makes $588AUD. Prices are probably cheaper direct from the airlines and not Kayak$

AirAsia, Scoot Airlines and TigerAir also fly out of Austrlia and are cheaper, but with a stop over in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. y2k
Those prices ex-Per are either Jetstar or Tiger.
NamKangMan
Those prices ex-Per are either Jetstar or Tiger. Ok. Do a loop. Why go in and out of either Phuket or Bangkok - no need to. Save yourself a side flight. Also, check Virgin, I think they go out of Perth for Phuket as well. Edited May 16, 2014 by NamKangMan
y2k
There are no direct flights Perth to Pattaya. Besides I have a visit to make in Phuket and that is probably best done after Pattaya. I assumed that I would have to fly to wither Bangkok or Phuket, do the Pattaya trip then back/on to Phuket then back to Perth whether direct from Phuket or from Bangkok. You are really making a simple trip difficult. Firstly, U-Tapao is a Thai Airforce Base - I believe only Bangkok Air and some Russin charter flights can land there - no other carrier can. What about Perth to Bangkok - taxi to Pattaya - taxi to U-Tapao - U-Tapao to Phuket with Bangkok Air - Phuket to Perth. Or, the other way around. Simple, quick and affordable. y2k
Your suggestion, though valid and logical, is still more expensive: per - bkk jetstar is 374aud plus utp - hkt bangkok air is 2640 baht (88aud) plus hkt - per is 260aud makes 722aud than my post #32: per - bkk - per is $433AUD plus bkk - hkt - bkk is $150AUD makes $588AUD. y2k
I'm done. Just had to make clear that return ticket prices are what they are and single ticket prices are not always the answer.

y2k
Probably this: per - bkk bkk - pattaya and back by taxi bkk - hkt - bkk bkk - per
y2k
On detailed review I found the prices to vary and this is mainly due to the way the budget airlines like Jetstar and Tiger hide the charges until you have entered your passenger details. I did this and have these prices: option 1 per-bkk single tiger 289 jetstar 383 utp-hkt single bangkokair 88 hkt-per single tiger 314 jetstar > 12hrs total 691 option 2 per-bkk-per jetstar 594 bkk-hkt-bkk 143 total 737 option 1 is the preferred one as it only involves 3 instead of 4 flights and 1 taxi ride not 2 and it's the cheapest. Okay mods close it down.

More than the cost of your flights and accommodation, over the duration of your stay. Edited May 18, 2014 by NamKangMan
