suttiwit
Are there any numbers stations in Thailand? Numbers stations, are stations that broadcast numbers in speech (usually synthisized speech) through radio. They may represent numbers as: English (one, two, three) or Cut morse (shorter version of morse codes for transmiting numbers). See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station An example of a Numbers Station called the "Lincolnshire Poacher" broadcasting for an island of Greece: Question is, are there any? I'd just like to know and might be able to tune-in to listen to it.
ukrules
There are much easier ways of relaying secret messages these days. Private / Public key encryption springs to mind.
suttiwit
hmm... Numbers Stations are still here today, actually. I've heard from somewhere, the reason to have numbers stations is because it's on Shortwave radio, which is hard to trace back.
Sandman77
Also numbers and impulse tones are used to hide secret massage from public to adress only one person You have a lot of number combinations each number mean a word and transmitted over shortwave And only one person that have The key and the structure of the codec means the key can read the massage! Also the NSA cannot hack it Shortwave is a nightmare in Thailand Because of open power lines everywhere Mostly only noise loud! You need a shortwave balloon on a geographical possition and a 30 meter grounded protected cable from outside signals to get better results Filters can also help! sustento
It's worth pointing out that if you're in Thailand and you're trying to listen to hf numbers stations that are based in Thailand you're relying on ground wave propagation which hf isn't very good at. As soon as you move out of the ground wave area you're in the skip zone and won't hear anything at all.
