ACM Kongsak: Interior Ministry is ready to wipe out drug dealers

The Interior Minister, Air Chief Marshal Kongsak Wanthana (คงศักดิ์ วันทนา), has insisted that his ministry is ready to wipe out narcotic problems nationwide.

He revealed that the ministry now is gathering the names of drug dealers so lawsuits can be filed against them. Provincial administrators will reported the drug traders and buyers’names to the Interior Ministry every month.

Although the spread of narcotics in Thailand has lessened, ACM Kongsak has encouraged officials to continue to fight against narcotics as a tribute to His Majesty the King.

In the meantime, he has instructed provincial governors nationwide to monitor and arrest illegal football gamblers during the World Cup 2006 tournament.

Is it mandatory that all drug dealers register for eradication? Will there be queues up north as they fight to be first in line? Is there actually gambling going on in the Kingdom?

Just an idle thought.

I though the PM had announced there were no drug dealers left in Thailand some time ago.

Will anyone ever realise that campaigns like this will not achieve their aim. However, it probably goes down well with some. It would be almost laughable if it wasnt so likely to end in dead innocents. And still the politicians kids will get their fixes and never have to worry about the police. Now there's an idea. Maybe an example should be made of high profile kids of politicians who take drugs.

By the way when is the next social order campaign? No kids out after 7 o'clock or something unless they are the kids of notable government politicians. No bars to serve alcohol after 10 PM or something. What will they think of next?

We should praise the Interior Minister, because "lawsuit" is obviously a serious improvement regarding procedures... before, they just shooted the drug dealers...

But i'm wondering why they didn't apply this idea before : afterall the provincial administrators have the name of all dealers and buyers ! It's great ! So the key was : ask. Just ask.

Once again : first you are laughing in front of such stupidity. But then, you start to think... and you become very afraid. Those "officials" are really scary. What do they have in their brain ?

Will this new campaign work? It sounds similar to the old campaign. The difference being they aren’t threatening the dealers with shoot on sight.

From what I gather during the last campaign the village headmen upwards provided lists of people they suspected of dealing. The police then requested these named people to attend a meeting at the police station.

This then placed the dealers in a catch 22 situation.

Attend the police interview and be shot by the drug bosses

or

Not attend the police interview only to be tracked down and shot by the police.

This time I imagine there’ll be some very worried people hiding from the drug bosses while they wait their time in court.

Is this a joke? I doubt it will be very effective.

Method 1

Police : You are hereby notified that you are a suspected drug trafficker being in violation of criminal code xxxx, you are required to turn yourself in to the police so that charges can be made against you. Thank you and have a good day.

Drug Dealer : Really? Okay here's 500,000 baht for your kid's tuition. Oh and i know where you live by the way, shall i send it to your home?

Police : Oh look, it wasn't YOU on the list, just someone else with a similar name. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Method 2

Police : BANG! BANG! BANG!

Drug Dealer :

Police : BANG! BANG!

Drug Dealer :

Police : BANG!

Or if you want to be cynical how you are dealt with as a suspected drug dealer will probably depend upon which party you support/canvass for. Or at least that certainly had an effect last time.

Or even more cynical. Provincial administrators will report the names of those they dont like, those they have disputed with and those they think will please the government.

And then you have Yuth doo yen.
