I have two booting problems with two different computers, same same but different.

I've a computer with Windows 7, I installed a Windows 8 preview but I don't like it. Now when starting I've to go through a menu asking me to chose between Window 7 and Window 8.

Same same but different ;-) I installed Windows 7 on an old computer that was running Windows XP. Again when starting I've to go through a menu asking me to chose between Window 7 and Window XP.

The question is how to get rid of the unwanted OS ?

Even if you delete the OS you don't want you may still get the choice menu at start up.

To get rid if this go to - Control Panel - System - System Protection - Advanced Tab - Startup and Recovery - Settings.

Under "Default Operating System" is a drop down menu listing the OS you have.

The easiest way to stop the start up menu display is uncheck "Time to display list of operating systems"

Don't forget to click OK at the bottom.

This is for Win7 and as far as I recall the same works for XP though the System Protection window may be in a different location.

I'm traveling and have only a win 8.1 laptop.

If some people would be so kind as to (in XP and 7) click start and then type in

msconfig

and open msconfig, click the boot tab there will be the start up instructions.

I we could get those instructions pasted in here, he could replace the dual boot instructions he has with what's pasted in here from a standard installation.

Save and close msconfig and you won't get that stop screen again.

^ Thanks a lot. Right now I'm not in front of the computer with the problem but I will first try to follow your instruction and if it doesn't work I will past the msconfig file for your editing.

Thanks again for your help :-)
