Is Line down?

Featured Replies

I tried sending some messages to friends using Line. Everything appeared to operate as usual, but the messages have not been read, and these are people who monitor Line almost continuously. Somewhere I read that the military was considering taking Line down, does anyone know if they did so?

We had a news report in Australia that the Internet was being cut.

My Thai partner said that they were cutting the Internet last night.

So assuming that the Rumours were true, and that 'Line' uses the Internet,

It's quite plausable that the message has been sent, but not read at the receiving end.

Not true yet, I'm still using Line and internet is still working fine. Until there is violence throughout the city. Then I think they might take out the internet. The Army is trying to make things as smooth and comfortable as possible. The reason why we're having the coup is that both sides can not agree plus the army found lots of weapons getting ready to be used by the UDD and men in black.

So far the rumors are not true, I'm using the internet now in Thailand. Line uses the internet and is very popular for texting and internet phone and video calls in Thailand and other countries. Somewhere (either TV or the BBC website) I read that the military might shut it down, I'm trying to determine if that has happened.

Just keep your cool and watch the news channels for updates, where you can.

Had a conversation over Line today with someone in Thailand about an hour after the OP post. One thing I did notice is my PC version had the conversation and my mobile version didn't show it for maybe a half hour after, even when I opened up the app and sent a message from it. Not sure if that means anything regarding people using the mobile version or was just something on my end.

They tried to cut line but then the Mia Nois and Gigs were cut off too so it was quickly reinstated.

You can bet they are monitoring such services for any criticism, and they've already threatened to cut them if they are used for this purpose.

Internet ok. I have access to my emails and most overseas newspapers. WhatsApp is also working fine this morning.

So far so good.

I have been having the same problem since around the time the OP started this thread. With that said some of my Thai friends can use LINE with no problem, for others... I've been sending messages for the last 2-3 days and none of them have even been read.

It's hard to get an accurate read as the various Junta and ICT spokespeople have been saying different things publicly ("misunderstanding", "glitch", "given an order to block", "not given an order to block" but there have been translated spoken references to the on-going installation of a centralized gateway ("streamlining the blocking of on-line content") for some services like FB/Instagram, Line, YouTube, et al.

No doubt some western company is supplying the required software and hardware, probably through a third-party to avoid sanctions in their home country.

Some posit that yesterday's brief blockage of FB/Instagram was either/both a 'warning shot'/experiment prior to meetings scheduled between the Junta/ICT and these providers, meant to encourage them to self-censor, or timed to discourage the organization of protests timed for after work participation.

Everything you are hearing about the internet is false. Nobody is blocking websites or shutting the lines down. The problem is the amount of traffic flowing through the gateways and servers. Your local speed is not the problem....the problem is that servers/gateways can slow down response times on their end.....because of high volume.

...On the other hand, perhaps certain servers/gateways are being routed through government agencies...? Causing glitches and slowdowns. Perhaps, during events like this, contingency internet security plans are implemented, and need to be worked through. Thus the glitch

Everything you are hearing about the internet is false.

When one considers that it is "Col Sirichan Ngathong, deputy spokeswoman of the NCPO" and "the ICT Permanent Secretary" who are saying (some of) the things being heard, your observation may or may not be correct.

errr.... let me adjust to that. How about if I am just referring to the wild posts that say Facebook is Offline...or the Internet is down. That should make me more....correct?

Line is working fine for me. I've started using it for line to line calls instead of skype which has become useless lately. The slowing down of the Thai internet connection hasn't helped either.

Line messages to and fro are going through ok but a small video my wife sent me last night hasn't appeared on line.

Line to line call last night was very clear and better than telephone.

Tried to send messages on Line today, from UK, all showing not read, so has it now gone down ?

Nope, maybe everyone is ignoring you. Seriously though, I do think it sometimes does not show read for quite a while even though a message is read. I can also read the popup message on my phone (Android) and it does not show as read unless I go to the app. So I can selectively ignore after reading the message, or last one that comes through.

Also, a single message will sometimes seem to get stuck without showing up until another is sent or a sticker. So I think it is best to send two short messages, or a message followed by a sticker as the sticker can't be reviewed in the popup message. I haven't had problems contacting people in Thailand.

Could it be that people are sleeping?

Line continues to work for me; I haven't heard about any blanket shut-downs, but the Military Junta/ICT has sent a group to Japan to speak with Line about managing certain account(s).
