Thai army summons ex-PM Yingluck, others in Thaksin clan

HOT TOPIC ALERT!

This one is going to ignite ThaiVisa today. Big question, will any of them respond....or are they even in the country right now?

Does Prayuth know what he 's doing, a bleak future for all of us.

Yes he knows what he is doing - he is fixing Thailand's woes and things can only improve from here. It seems like the Shin's have been banished from Thai politics and that is the single most positive aspect of this necessary coup (even if it did take its time coming)!!!

If you have a tooth ache what is the best thing to do? Take out the tooth with its root, of course and Prayuth has just become a dentist.

He does seem to know exactly what he is doing, I would also note that he has been extremely restrained in his approach the last 6 months

It will be interesting to see how many of those rounded up are willing to (blow the whistle) turn states evidence in any on going investigations which I would expect to start immediately

I also suspect that certain people who are not currently under the microscope will be implicated soon enough - they might think they have escaped for now - keep an eye on the airports and see what is revealed

Methinks Prayuth is gonna make the mother of all Unity governments with this assembled rabble.

Either that or he's going to lock them all up until it's all over

An honest politician is an oxymoron. Gen. P has a very unenviable task ahead of him. Maybe he should take a leaf out of China's book and make political corruption a capital offense?

Not a bad idea.

There are many rules relating to corruption, voting, behaviour in parliament that need a short sharp shock

Sort of like Thaksin's war on drugs that certain people here keep banging on about..

The Bangkok elites can get to shoot their political enemies for free in the name of fighting drugs corruption.

Your mind must be a real mess if you join the dots on what I said and got what you said.

Thaksin's war on drugs was a disgrace and is just one small part of why the nation is in a mess.

I don't care who is guilty of corruption - but if in government it should mean immediate action - suspension from work - followed by a full investigation and severe punishment

You know that in many places in Thailand it almost seems a national past-time to have competitions where guys take those little birds in cages and listen to them sing, prizes being given to the bird that sings the best. I just wonder how much all these 'birds' are singing now that are currently being summoned by the army. Now that would be a delightful thing to watch. I bet each one is trying to sing louder than the other in order to avoid a jail term for corruption. But but he............ I wish they would televise it!

Meanwhile the corrupt other half of the elites, based in Bangkok and Nakon Si Thammarat-Phuket, retain their self-issued license to pursue their financial interests without limit or laws, and are presently consulting their accountancy firms to estimate the trillions of baht value in soon to be confiscated assets of the group that was just removed from any and all competition.

While the Thais and fahlang alike are hoarding at 7-Eleven and Tesco, the deeply rooted corrupt other half are hoarding at the SET and running the board in the corporate boardrooms. The kids just took over the candy store, the whole of it, to include the richest toy soldier generals in the world.

What comes to mind reading your post is "demagogy".

Well Publicus, you are not exactly an optimist when it comes to Thai character assessment, are you?

and yet... was a popular policy with widespread cross party support as well as public support. Go figure.

Maybe Thaksin can start the government in exile...

What do you mean "start"? He's been doing that for years, an unelected, unaccountable control freak remote controlling a band of brigands passing as a government. No wonder Thailand has spent the last 8 years pushing the envelope of SNAFUism.

I'd guess she's pretty wobbly in the knees this morning.

Not only knees trembling but with her back against the wall too. You have to feel sad for Yingluck, to have risen so high and fallen so far.

More like someone yanked her up high and then dropped her.

Publicus might want to do some research who are all from the south. Jatuporn - Suratthani. Thida - Suratthani. Natthawut - Nakorn Sri thammarat. Don't for one second believe that the UDD leaders are fighting for the poor or the people in the north/northeast.

Some better judgement from you would be appreciated, i.e., don't presume to know what I might think, know, believe. If anyone these daze / days actually believe people in the contemporary world are or could be communists, then they'd have to concede that there are fascists at work here too.

If anything, however, communism is long dead but fascism is resurgent, without and in the absence of, an extreme left sector. This is the modern phenomenon evident in Thailand in particular, but uniquely in its depth and extent.

Thais in the Surat and in the deep South enjoy a socio-economic status roughly equal to that of the Bangkok middle classes and the Bangkok ammarts, so they are essentially content with the status quo, whereas Thais in the North are well below the socio-economic status of the Bangkok-Surat-South population. People advocating ordinary socio-economic justice and equity go where the action is.

Realism is the first requirement of an accurate analysis of anything.

Military had shown a sign of change over the past 7 months. I truly thought the military would provide the security, force political parties to negotiate, find a happy medium set of reforms, and quickly implement an election. Unfortunately, the Army chose the path of old, outdated methods to deal with its people.

attachicon.gifwhere's yingluck.jpgNew game.where's Yingluck

Well, not long ago she bravely posted on her Facebook page that she was ready to die fighting on the battlefield for DemocracyTM... of course that may just had been empty rhetoric to rouse the Red Shirts to fight for her and her clan, but that would make her a despicable manipulator of the masses. So I'm sure she is donning camo and an ammo bandana as we speak.

I never mentioned communism. I merely responded to your statement about the so called elites from the south. And although I agree that people like Thida and Weng are likely fighting a good cause, I have some serious doubts about the likes of Jatuporn, nattawut, and many other key UDD people. You say that people from the south are about as rich as in Bangkok? Again I say; do your research before you make such statement. Although the north east is obviously poor, the south and north are similar, far exceeded by Central Thailand and Eastern Thailand and Bangkok bring in a league of its own. So instead of thinking that 'People advocating ordinary socio-economic justice and equity go where the action is. ' , it would be safer to say in the case of UDD that 'Populists go where the populace is'.

It is time a group stands up that is sincere about creating a more equal society in Thailand, and will put an end to the massive corruption seen today.

What comes to mind lunchtime today is militarism, martial law, toy soldiers who bully unarmed civilians.

I always thought that when someone speaks in absolute terms only he probably cannot substantiate.

From your local unbullied and unarmed Dutch uncle rubl

I've always found Dutch uncles to be overbearing and bloated in their erroneous notions of self-importance and self-supposed savvy. I recall New York was originally New Amsterdam until a British Naval fleet suddenly arrived one fine and fortuitous day (Jan Kees).

Much to the chagrin of many Dutch uncles, the Brits and the locals together dismantled the larger territory of New Netherlands into the new colonies, now states, of New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware. Sorry 'bout that. (Not really smile.png )

It was the Dutch who had bought Manhattan island from the unsuspecting natives for $26.00. The Brits and the locals took a lesson from that. It's a lesson Yankees have carried forward to the present wherever money, fairness, values are in play.

Just think - if they stupid Shiniwatra clan had actually proposed a moderate rice policy, and NOT tried to get an amnesty for Thaksin - PTP would still be in power and none of this would have happened. I bet there are a lot of folks saying. WT F did we do? We had it all!

Morons.

And not tried to get a ฿2.2 Trillion loan which really would have crippled the country.

You know nothing of diplomacy if you believe the meeting will be fun. It will be a boring gathering, the highlight of which will be the tea and biscuits. Everyone will emerge great friends and talk of the need for a managed return to democracy as soon as possible and how important a regional partner Thailand is.

The 'fun' meetings are never announced and are much smaller.

"A bulletin read out on national television said Yingluck, Thaksin's younger sister who was dismissed as premier this month in a contentious court ruling, must present herself at 10:00 am (0300 GMT) Friday.

The junta also ordered the presence of her brother-in-law, former premier Somchai Wongsawat, and two other relatives, "in order to maintain peace and smoothly solve national problems."

It gave no hint of what might happen after their appearances."
