Because my wife is Thai Yai she must have work outside of, and permission to travel outside of Mae Hong Son province.

Is it possible for me as an American, legally here on a Non-Imm "B" visa, working as a teacher, to employ her as a "mae baan". ???

Innaquandry...... 2 kinds of foreigners,

All Thai Yai that weren't born in Thailand, or were born here but don't have citizenship, and have permission to live in Thailand will have a pink or blue Thai I.D. card and must obtain permission to work and or travel outside Mae Hong Son.

There are many other ethnic peoples in the same boat, Lisu, Akha, Musu, Karen, etc........

Mae Hong Son province is a kind of a refugee camp.

I believe "Work permit 4 my Thai Yai wife" is supposed to mean "Work permit for my Thai Yai wife".

I am not sure she needs a work permit. Just a legitimate job perhaps.. It might be just a matter of an employment contract.

I don't have a enough knowledge about it though to give any firm information.

@ ubonjoe, everybody who isn't a Thai citizen must have permission to work in Thailand. About 3 - 5 kilometers north of the Chang Puak gate Chiang Mai ( I believe it's route 107, Chiang Mai - Mae Rim ) there's a government labor office (on the right hand side of the road heading north out of C.M.) where all Asian immigrants go to get permission to work in C.M. province eg.; Laotians, Burmese, Cambodians, Thai Yai, etc...... Not to be confused with the labor office a bit further up the road on the left hand side where all the large government office buildings are that foriegners from America, Europe, etc.... go to get permission to work.

This is the routine Thai Yai people who don't have citizenship, legally living in Thailand must endure in order to work outside of Mae Hong Son province;

1st) Must get permission to travel outside Mae Hong Son province to find work from the Ampoe ( allowed 7 - 10 days travel max. to a specific province )

2nd) After finding a job, must go to the above mentioned Asian labor office with medical certificate, employment contract, employers info, and applicants info. If approved pay the appropriate fees and receive work permit. ( good for 1 or 2 years max.)

3rd) Return to ampoe Mae Hong Son, submit all paperwork, if approved pay fee and receive permission to live and work at province of employment. Permission to live and work in another province must be renewed annually. (even if have 2 year work permit)
