Hi we just had TOT install a fiber optics line, including paying for a line to be run to our house etc.. etc..

Should be 20Mbs download.
I went to dsl speed test and we do not even have 1 mbs download. Upload

is ok.

Also error message says

ERROR: ISP is required

Any advice? Im not to technical with internet stuff.

Actually, the OP should use these SPEED TEST links as they are direct to TOT servers.

TOT Bandwidth Speed Test

TOT Advanced & FTTx Speed Test

For International Internet Gateway speed/quality to other countries, most speed tests are inaccurate due to use of local cache (38ms to Costa Rica SA, really???)

Many people recommend using this website for testing single and multithread response (Use the link at the Very Top of the Page to select type and Country)

TestMy.net

Are you doing the speedtests over WiFi, or directly connected to the FTTx router via Ethernet?

as the previous response suggested, please post your results here.

I had TOT fiber 4 U ? or whatever its called, installed about 4 months ago,

its the 13/1 GB, the first couple of weeks it was quite good, then it began

to slow, and got slower, so i phoned TOT up, and they must have tweaked

something their side and it was faster again, then about a month later ,it

began to slow again, got on to TOT again, and since it has not been too

bad, at least i can stream movies etc.

But its not good if yours is slow to start with, and really these TOT speed

test that the technician may show you if he comes to your home,do not

tell the whole story,as they will be only tested to BKK or Laos,so will show

good results,

regards worgeordie

Today is not a good day to judge internet speeds. My TOT fiber has been very erratic all day whereas normally it is very reliable. Don't know whether it's Coup related or kids off school related, but try again over the next day or so.

If you are using a tunnel or VPN it affects speeds.

Test change DNS to for example 8.8.8.8 (google) 8.8.4.4

Tunneling/DNS can lead to really strange speeds.
I can get 1000mbit against speediest but real world speed at 50Kbit against Dropbox. Always because of tunnels/DNS not choosing the ”closest” way for the TCP/IP

package.

(speedtest can give full speed but real world is slow = difficult to fix since the ISP can’t control the whole internet.)

If you are on a PC:

http://www.pingplotter.com

is a great software to see where the packages are lost = where the problem is.

I suggest calling TOT and having the tech come back to the house and lead you through the set up. You need to set up user name and password to connect to your ISP (TOT) account.

You need to know how to access your modem/router and change settings. If you have wireless, you want to set up passwords and controls to prevent other from accessing your computer or just using some of your bandwidth. You do not want 100 of your closest friends and neighbors logging on to your open wireless router.

I use True fiber/cable, so a different company. But I called and complained about my 15Mbps program only giving me some 12 Mbps. The customer service gal called a tech and we had a 3 way conversation. The tech said 12 Mbps was not bad, but my reply was that was not what I was paying for, 80%. They sent a tech out, tweaks were made, I got my 15Mbps, pretty much world wide.

One of the tweaks was made to the fiber to cable junction box on the pole outside. If is possible that there is a problem out there.

I would say do not accept anything but the 20Mbps you are paying for. I used TOT ADSL for years and found them to be very coorperative in working any problems I had, including sending techs to the house when warranted. So I would expect you will find them willing to work with you.

P.S. These days, I still get 15 Mbps on speed test to BKK but only 11Mbps to the U.S.

Actually on your True cable/DOCSIS 15Mb/1.5Mb plan you should be getting a lot more download speed for short periods...like around double the download speed....due to the "bursting" capability True implemented on its DOCSIS/cable system about a year ago. But maybe they didn't implement bursting in all locations. The download bursting can last 30 or more seconds, usually longer than it takes to run a speedtest....great for surfing and downloading small files. Upload speed is not affected.

I'm in Bangkok on a 15Mb/1.5Mb True cable/DOCSIS plan and below are speed test results to Bangkok servers done at around 10am on this fine Tuesday morning on the TOT speedtester, the True speedtest, and Speedtest.net...test done on my home Wifi connection (laptop to True Wifi router) vs a hardwire/Ethernet connection....I only mention the Wifi connection since I would probably have pulled a little higher speed test results if hardwired to the Wifi router. There are times during the speedtests that the bursting speed can reach over 40Mb for a few seconds...but as the speedtest continues the bursting slows down, the speedtest algorithm makes adjustments such as throwing out high and low speed measurements, and the final results are presented.

I am assuming now and for a long time it will still be bad time to test? Thank you for the replies and will call TOT to see what we can do and get as much info as we can about the router password. It is on Wifi with a password set over the phone with our Thai friend who was here but who knows what else we should know... Thank you again.

And yes that TOT link gives fantastic speed reports unlike DSLreports

Hi Noise,

Ok so it all stopped working. Had my Thai staff call after I had called 2x on the weekend to be told a technician will call. My staff is rather blunt and on her 3rd call on Monday asked if someone was going to call in this life or the next? She got the numbers of the dopey technicians and they came. The Mitsubishi router had to be changed (geez only used it for days).
So I asked them as they were here, how come dslreports gives me .5mbps down and about 2 up? But TOT 20/2?

First he said because of the wireless .. and I could not connect directly because I have a newer Macbook with no port. Than he calls HQ and says"

20Mbps only guaranteed for sites in Thailand and 10% speed guaranteed for sites in the world." I call my Thai staff to make sure I fully understood. Yep. That is correct.

I used to pay 680 for a 6Mbps line that gave me 2 Mbps now I paid for the extra line to be laid (well landlord paid half) and 1200 a month for what I had at the other plan?

I do have the paper with the Dlink password and info and logged into to my 168.192.1.1 but did not want to change anything.

My speed is better but obviously still not what we paid for. I mean I would think even most Thai sites are not hosted in Thailand. URG!!!!
