You guys are totally right...

I'll look elsewhere for a more suitable bike...

I guess I'm just being stingy 555+

After work today I'm going with my cousin to a few bike shops!

I'll update you guys again soon :)

Why buy a bike with no plates when bikes with plates are available at the same price from pretty much every dealer?

I don't get it...

The dealers she has gone to have asked high prices for high milage bikes.

See her #6 post above.

If the green book is okay (which I expect it is...in wife's name...although OP persists in withholding this crucial datum), acquiring new plates should be a minor detail that any agency or land transport office could handle @ book transfer.

Get it?

Update: I spoke with my colleague this morning and he said it bought the bike from a dealer in his wife's name and has all supporting documents to prove it. just no plates..

Great that means he has the greenbook albeit in his wife's name.

Since he bought from a dealer "new" then the plate is there at the dealer

Tell him go get it.

Once that is done go with his wife since she is the owner to the DMV

Have her sign off & see the book put into your name.

Then & only then pay her

Nothing else works

Last 3 paragraphs are right on.

But just because he bought from a dealer we cannot infer that he bought "new" as dealers also sell 2nd hand stock, no?

I've decided to Buy a Honda Wave (2nd hand) for 20,000b ht from a dealership.
The initial price of the bike was 19,000 with an additional 1,000 for transferal.
It's black and red, comes with the 'Green Book' and all supporting legal documents.
It has supposedly only clocked 15,000 km - whether or not this is true I'll never know.
I'm yet to test ride it, I plan to do so this coming Friday.
The guy seemed friendly and honest. I Just have to take a chance and hope for the best :)

I suspect that trying a different dealer or looking in the classifieds (where there are plenty of decent cheap bikes) would be easier that trying to sort the green book and plates. Anyway, looks like the OP has taken the excellent advice offered buy the forum and bought a different bike.

Maybe she can PM you the details of the plateless bike with a mystery green book in someone else's name and you can get yourself a bargain? rolleyes.giflaugh.png

I'm real lazy to start a new thread regarding maintenance so I'll just write it here..

How to best maintain the bike?

Or just get a service done every 4-6 months...

for honda wave not much maintenance. it is a reliable and durable bike.

change the oil and spark plug right away.

Check the chain and sprockets. Check the tires too if there is enough tread and check if there are any cracks on the sidewalls. If a lot of cracks and no tread, just change them too. Rainy season is coming and you dont want to ride during it with bad tires that do not hold the ground.

check the suspensions too.

if it is has carburetor, just let them clean it.

these are enough.

go to a proper official honda shop and let them check these.

good luck and happy and safe rides!

Standard servicing is not by months but by how many

kilometers the bike runs

Honda Wave service checks are at 1,4,8,12k km

So roughly about every 4000 km

Since you just got it & it is at 15,000km

You may as well take it in & just have a general service

They will change oil & check chain, cables, valves, air filter etc.

Dont tell them you just bought it or want anything special just take it to a good dealer

for a normal check.

If you have the previous owners manual under the seat

it would be good to look inside & see if they did the

1,4,8,12k km services. Just so you know how well it has been cared for in the past

Not too worry much though as Honda Wave is a tough scooter.

If it has oil & fuel it will run a long time.

Chok Dee glad you found a bike with green book

Carb clean.

New Spark plug.

New oil filter and oil.

New air filter.

New brake pads.

New tires.

Check chain and sprockets. Adjust and lube if new ones aren't required yet.

That is what I do when I buy a used bike. It's best to write it all on a list and give to the shop.

It's that time of the week and I plan to go test ride the motorbike first time this arvo.
My question is, what to look for when riding? Specific sounds? Gear change feel?
Where to look to ensure everything is running smoothly...............

I hope someone replies to this soon :(

if it is a honda wave and if is is working, the rest is easy actually!

Rev the engine to see if any hiccups check the brakes if they are working well. check the chain/sprockets if they are rusty or adjusted well.

Also check rims and tires if any rust or cracks.

It is easy to repair this bike anyway.

I did ride the bike and it seemed fine. Unfortunately I'm unable to make the purchase until Monday morning. Apparently I need a copy of my Tabian Baan, I.D card and guarantee-or in case I can't make payment on time. It would have been good if the man had told me prior to coming (this is Thailand).

I got the bike today and everything's in good order (so far). The breaks are kinda faulty, I mean they're hard to pull down on and don't stop as quickly as I'd like them too. Would it be okay to use the foot break next to my clutch more often? It obviously needs a few minor adjustments, but for 20,000k I can't expect the bike to be perfect. Oh, when I try to open the seat I have to jiggle the key around a bit before it opens..... But other than those two minor problems I'm happy :)

Kirsty,

I'm glad you are mobile.

Fun, huh?

If the dealer you bought from has a mechanic, have him look at your issues, or find another mechanic.

Probably fairlyinexpensive and easy to sort out.

Definitely don't be afraid to use the (right) foot brake.

Use it preferentially is wet or sandy situations, else the front may lock up and down you go.

Please wear a helmet.

Are you going to post us a picture on you Wave?
