Just bought a Samsung UA40H6300 as a bed room TV and im not happy with the "smart-TV" functionality. I succeed to change the regional settings to my home country, but im still blocked without a VPN. And i have yet not found any VPN-app for Samsung. So im thinking about to buy a HTPC or a Android pin.

Can anyone recommend me a good and small HTPC or a Android-pin available her in Thailand for my TV, alternative a router that can run VPN?

Any DD-WRT Router can be used to provide VPN connections.

But if you are actually looking at something that will do streaming, try the GBox MX-2 with XBMC and all the usual add-ons.

I'll PM you where I bought mine.

Most Cable Broadband ISPs in Thailand only allow DOSCIS Modems provided by them.

But if one of their Modems provide BRIDGE MODE then you can connect your own router (or router with custom firmware)

I suggest you research IPTV, Android media boxes and XBMC running on x device (many many options there) and see what the forums recommend for acquiring international content.

A special router may not be necessary. Really depends on what content you want to watch, where it originates and how it's propagated, or mispropagated (is that a word? ...my spellcheck wanted to suggest 'misappropriated' for some reason. Hmm. Nope. Different meanings.)

Actually you don't need a VPN to use XBMC, you just need it to fool things like BBC iPlayer into thinking you're in the UK.

Just get a vpn router cheap enough or ddwrt supported router (like some of the tp-link models).

Connect it to your modem via LAN port, and make sure you configure vpn correct. This way only your tv will be connected via vpn router and not the rest of your devices.

Alternatively you can try unblock us dns provider services to watch US/UK programs on smart tv.

Sign up with Unotelly - you do not need to run TV through a VPN, just set up Unotelly Dynamo DNS either on your router or on your TV.

Benefit of setting the DNS on the router is that all other devices that connect to it can also access US/UK TV - not just the TV itself.

I can access Sky, iPlayer, Netflix, 4OD, ITV Player, Hulu etc with this method - well worth it for about £3 a month, though you can get up to 6 months free. I previously had 3 routers, one Thai, one "DD-WRT" with UK VPN, and one "Tomato" with US VPN - I no longer use them, Unotelly works just as well, is much, much less hassle and considerably cheaper than two VPN accounts.

If you really really want to take the VPN router approach yourself, I have for sale one DD-WRT Linksys 54GL, or a Tomato ASUS RTN16, or a Billion BiPac 7402X (has VPN built in but never worked it out) along with a (non VPN capable) TP-Link TL-WR841N biggrin.png boy am I glad to just use one box now.

+1 or use UnblockUS

exactly the same principle and the DNS route seems to work very well. the only problem, of course, is the Thai Internet International Gateway i.e. International Internet download speeds. This topic is well known about and discussed in many posts.
