Ask your rental provider, but as a minimum your licence, passport (do NOT leave it as a 'deposit'), credit card, possibly an IDP.

Passport and driving licence.

I've not needed an IDP with Avis in Bangkok - not sure about other areas.

They should copy your passport and licence and return them to you - as you will need them when you get stopped by the police 200 meters up the road for tea money.

I use a credit card for the deposit because if you use a debit card it takes 6 weeks to return the funds - but with credit they can cancel the deposit. Just make sure they cancel it before you leave.

Taking the extra accident insurance is a good idea as it saves hassles if (when!) you have a scrape.

If you don't take the extra insurance then inspect the car well for any damage before you sign for it.

And check the gas, I rented a car from an International Company at Khon Kaen Airport, whilst I checked the car thoroughly I failed to check the gas level, when the guy said the tank is full bring it back full, I took him at his word, it wasn't, but not enough to warrant driving back.

It took three weeks to release the 20,000 Baht block on my card.

If you rent a car enough your passport and driving-licence.

BUT don't save your time to check the car every-where (spare wheel also) cause when you will take back, they will check out everything very well, and if they find any small demage which is not mentioned by renting documents they will charge you.

All the smiles you recieve when you pick up the car, when you drop of the smiles are run out already.

I rented a car by insurance voucher when my car was under small reparing 3 days. Never again. Next time I will use taxi. I don't miss again those circus which I got when drop of those small idiot honda brio 1.2 wheels in Suvanabhumi airport. The top in the story was when the smileless guy told me after 25 minutes checking: "you made this crash!" I showed him the contract attachment, which contained exactly the mentioned damage.

The (smart) guy: "Yes, I know, but this crash is DEEPER now than before".

My answer: OK, let's go to your superviser, I'm fed up your idiocy.

And my guy: OK, OK, solly, solly, but did you smoke in the car ??? crazy.gif

Passport and driving Licence….(Take heed of what Crossy said about NOT to leave your PP and DL with them.)

As in the previous post check the spare wheel….

I also used to photograph every part (inside and out) of the truck or car, either with my camera or mobile phone camera,

also check the fuel gauge reading

Try and cover yourself from all angles...(you will be glad you did)

Have a nice day.
