RS wins court battle, only 22 matches of Word Cup to be aired on free TVs

I wish they would " ban football altogether " I hate the game! I don't know which is worse 1. Watching people " shouting and screaming at a TV screen in a bar ( whilst wearing a ridiculous football top ) or 2. The " types " that then discuss the aftermath of the game 24 hours around the clock coverage by " harping on and on " about it!

Kind respect to any of our viewers that do actually watch football or own a football top..... )

God Bless you all !

Thanks for that info. As I said, 365 sport coverage was good when I watched the Premier League. I'm not going back to True, they've messed me about enough already in the past. They aren't getting my money again.

And, even if I would go back to True, I bet they couldn't send a guy out to come and install everything in time for the start of the World Cup anyway!!

365Sport will do for me.

Cut your own nose off to spite your face. Well done.

Watching a sporting event on TV is hardly a Human Right. If a company has bought the broadcast rights in an open an fair manner then their rights should be upheld. And if you don't have access to RS then as the Thai's "som nam naa".

While you make a valid point, that's not the thoughts of the law makers the world over,as per the below link,it is European law that the World Cup must be free to air, although if in the UK one must pay the license fee granted, still very good value IMO.

Reading that suggests that BBC and ITV have paid for the rights, as the article says the rights have been secured already. So they've done the right thing and been pro-active in getting free-to-air secured well before the tournament starts.

The Thai free-to-air should have done the same thing. No reason why the NBT or whatever they're called, couldn't have negotiated the rights way back on behalf of all the terrestrial channels. Seems very unfair to RS who did the right thing for their subscribers.

But the difference is that it wasn't offered to PPV operators in the UK,there is no body bidding except the terrestrial operators which brings down the cost I believe.

Any way if your a Nawrich supporter with your NCFC name good luck in the championship.

Only an aussie could be so ignorant about the world game,it is association rules football, soccer come from a shortening of this,to make it easier for you convict's to understand, and before you say it i lived 15 years in Australia, and i was at the world cup rugby final 2003,where we beat you and you little unsporting prime minster little Johnny boy almost threw the cup at our captain, you are the worst loser's in sport, and the only reason your not interested is you know your team of has beens, and christ when you look at the name's it could be croatia z,will get roasted and come home in shame, the a league is woeful,i have seen better in the conference in England, just face it ,you are no good at it that is why you hate it. Had to get that off my chest, but i just checked true info, all matches live on either ch668, or 99,not sure if English commentary though.

Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of cricket or rugby, but I don't go posting in rugby forums saying how all the men look funny and it's boring, because if people enjoy and love rugby, let them love it.

The worst are the anti-football fans that say "it's not a MAN's sport like Rugby". Well, not many sports are. They are different sports.

The comment is meant to imply that if you are a man, you shouldn't like football as it's not MANLY or hard and burly enough. If that's the case, are then men not allowed to enjoy pool, snooker, cricket, tennis, basketball etc?

Nothing more dull than an Aussie rugby fan moaning about the round ball game, in comparison to the oval ball game. You don't hear British rugby fans moan about football (and yes, it is FOOTball, look it up in the dictionary. You use a foot and you kick a ball).

Different sports, why the comparison?

Go the All Blacks!

Good call, well done the court for this decision

Why is it a good call, care to elaborate.

Major sporting events such as the Olympics and World Cup should be carried on national TV free to air the world over as far as I'm concerned.

Pay TV has stolen all the major sports events in recent years, the likes of the World Cup should be off limits IMO.

RS signed a contract with FIFA in 2006 for the rights to broadcast in Thailand. FIFA allowed only 22 games to be shown on free TV. Thai law changed since then and the NBTC tried to force RS to violate that contract. RS doesn't want to jeopardize its relationship with FIFA. The 'other' English language daily had an extensive piece on this matter.

Pay TV has stolen all the major sports events in recent years

From whom did pay TV steal all the manor sports events? FIFA SELLS the rights to broadcast their games as do all major sports leagues. RS is not a charity and they didn't 'steal' anything. In fact, they put their money up in 2006 and will, just now, recoup their investment. Also, True would go out of business if they couldn't offer programming not available on free TV. Your logic suggests there should be no paid cable or satellite services either.

I will be streaming so it dies not effect me but I have to say that the World Cup should be FREE for all to watch I bet the 22 games that will be shown FREE will be the low level matches I feel sorry for the Thais who are getting ripped off by there own fellow countrymen same old story the eliitists ripping off the poor !!!!,

Are you serious? Do you think that in this day & age FIFA would sell the World Cup rights for free?? It would be nice, but like the Olympics and every other professional sport, those days are long gone. Sports TV rights are BIG business.

Or even raffia work,or flower arranging,i agree Hawkman there are some real numbskulls posting here, and trying to say their obscure aussie rules or Rugby could ever compare to the world game is a joke.

RS wins court battle, only 22 matches of Word Cup to be aired on free TVs

BANGKOK: -- Supreme Administrative Court Wednesday ruled in favour of RS, freeing it from the order of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to air all 64 matches on free TVs.

The Supreme Administrative Court's ruling meant only 22 matches of the World Cup 2014 would be aired on free TVs.

nationlogo.jpg

-- The Nation 2014-06-11

Info is sparse at this time only the following has been announced.

22 matches including opening and final match of #WC2014 will also be broadcast on free TV.

The first three matches to be aired on free TV are: Brazil-Croatia, Mexico-Cameroon and Uruguay-Costa Rica. (Channels 7 and 8)

Viewers wanting to watch all 64 matches will have three options.

First: they can buy the RS World Cup set-top box, costing 1,590 baht each. (that works out to 24 Baht per game)

Second: subscribers of PSI pay-TV service can watch the matches if they buy the new PSI-O2 HD box.

Third: TrueVisions will carry the World Cup channel by RS, both in standard and high-definition resolution, for its members at no extra charge.

The NCPO pulled the legs off this one, because they have ordered all games to be aired on CH5 and CH7 both the army channels.

So this is just bluster and blow..... they are all accessible for free..... simple as that.

And so they should be.

RS signed a contract with FIFA. If that contract if abrogated by the Thai authorities, who compensates RS for their sizable investment to buy the rights and will FIFA ever sell rights to a Thai broadcaster again? Don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Incorrect,my logic suggests that certain global events that are of interest to the global population should be available to the global population for free or thereabouts.

Sadly this is now the way of the corporate world to take control, being from the UK I've seen the demise of football, formula one, tennis, golf, rugby, cricket, horse racing, boxing, and many more sports taken away from the public due to PPV and satellite operators.

It's <deleted> and shouldn't be allowed in this day and age.

I don't think you can blame the TV operators. It's the sports rights holders who are selling their rights to the highest bidder that have caused the change.
