HeijoshinCool
I remember three years ago when a guy, according to police, "drowned and washed ashore." In the photo, his buttocks showed deep lividity. Meaning he'd been sitting for some time after drowning.

gchurch259
"Dark Skin" is not a race of people, my guess one less Nigerian to worry about in Thailand, so that would make he a Negro. God rest him !! No I am not Racist, as a young boy in school we learned the names of different races of human beings. We can pick our nose, but not our race. cardinalblue
Why the negativity towards Nigerians? Why signal them out from all the "negro" countries/nationalities? As an American, the term "negro" started to disappear from our vocabulary/documents say 45 years ago but not sure if that term still applies in usage in other ocuntries or continents... Sorry but it is not a racist term except for the few bleeding hearts who take offense to almost everything. Negro is a term frequently used especially in historical terms to denote someone of dark skin and specific ethnic background.

Drop the racist-card, it doesn't work anymore. I'll say what I want and when I want. It is my decision to be, what you call racist..or race-specific; even negros call each other so-called racist names amongst themselves. The mainstream media has done a fine job labeling everything and everyone at the drop of a hat..and it seems that you have bought into it, hook, line and sinker. thumper101
You can't say ni**er, in case it offends.... even though they use that word a lot. You can't say negro in case that offends and they use that word also between themselves. There are a host of other words as well that you can't use in case it offends. Seems that no matter what word you use to refer to someone of African descent, someone will be offnded and call you a racist. So on that rationale, it is the fact you are referring to someone of 'African descent' is the offensive act and not the word. Which by the same rationale... dark skinned and Afro-Carriean should also be considered offensive because it means you are pointing out an African descended person...... How absolutely racist. Don't talk about them..... much better.... No wait!.... that would be racist.

Asiantravel
I think what the article is trying to say is a Caucasian with unusually sunburnt skin. I have seen a person like this wandering around over the last month or two. I couldn't help noticing him because of his very deeply tanned face. Popular Post Krataiboy
In the Fifties "black" was regarded as the most insulting word one could use for an American of African origin. "Coloured" was widely used for a while but proved sufficiently offensive to be superceded by "Negro" - which just to be Spanish for (you guessed it!). . . black! Negro was the norm until the late 1960s and was used in Martin Luther King, Jr's famous I Have a Dream speech in 1963. However, other civil rights campaigners objected to Negro because they felt it made African Americans as second class citizens and Militant Malcolm X preferred (you couldn't make it up) black. He only started using the term Afro-American after after rejecting Islam. In the humble opinion of this honkey, or whitey or cracker if you prefer, it seems there just ain't no pleasin' some folks.

CB According to UNCF website: http://www.uncf.org/sections/WhoWeAre/index.asp "The United Negro College Fund is the nations largest and most effective minority education organization". If the name were "racist" then I would think this organization, which predominantly provides service to the African-American community, would not use it and its membership would boycott its use of the term. The term simply fell out of popular use in America as the description, African-American, came into popularity. Cheers

SanukJoeII
It's true that race amongst humans does not exist. Al humans belong to the species Homo sapiens and as in mammals the next division is called subspecies, not race (like in birds). Humans all belong to the subspecies sapiens. In full: Homo sapiens sapiens. Add to that that the African Homo erectus has replaced other species, like Homo neanderthalensis, Homo rhodesiensis and Homo heidelbergensis, it means in fact that all non-African people are descending from the African Homo erectus, thus being more closely related to each other. Skin colour can change in 100 generations, depending on climate. From a directive of the European Union: "The European Union rejects theories which attempt to determine the existence of separate human races." There are three major races; Negroid, Caucasoid, and Mongoloid. Individual members of the three races can be referred to as Caucasian, Mongol and Negro. Simply using that nomenclature is not racist.

Popular Post penwithcris
Interesting how this news has developed into an argument about 'racism' I am most definitely a 'racist' if very negative feelings towards other races can be so defined Racism in my view is just learned behaviour. Humans are born with their minds a blank canvas but over time it develops positive and negative views As a 'war baby' my mind quickly assimilated a racist outlook towards the German race and the Japanese. With the Cold War my racism extended to Russians as I was repeatedly warned about the 'reds under my bed' (yes I really looked under the bed every night). So that's three groups that I had learned to have racist views about Then we saw a large black immigrant workforce and my neutral views gradually turned to one of negativity when I realised that black people were responsible for a disproportionate amount of criminal behaviour Add to this mix Pakistanis who cheat at cricket, Nigerians who seem responsible for most of the World's scams, and,of course, the current 'bete noir' any race with a preponderance of Moslem Islamists who are causing terrible problems in whichever country they have a presence, including Thailand Other races could well be justified in having highly negative and racist views about 'whites caucasians' I just see it as the way of the World, and getting steamed up because a black man has been referred to here as a 'negro' is the least of our worries
