The was an article today in the other newspaper by a well qualified dermatologist writing about reducing deep fat. I'm very skeptical about many claims made by dermatologists and others of that ilk: so many claims seem to have no scientific foundation. Of the techniques below, is it possible that they actually work?

Zerona: apparently creates a pore in the wall of fat cells and the fat flows out.

Zeltiq: kills fat cells by cooling the body from outside. (I thought the body was pretty good at regulating its temperature.)

Liposonix: kills fat cells using ultrasound.

Could these techniques take a few inches off a beer belly? Or is this just a pipe dream and such non-invasive techniques simply don't exist?

Supplementary question: when you read a statement such as "allowing the patient to lose inches in the waist, hips and thighs", is it always that they add together the girth of each of these parts before and after, and that's the inches loss? (Rather than actually losing even an inch from an individual part?

Exercise and diet...

As you say, how to get rid of a beer belly..reduce beer.

Seriously, it's not easy to lose weight, but natural weight lose through exercise and diet is cheap, healthy and sustainable.

Good luck

Mostly agree with a few nits.

Food intake issues are more important than exercise, but doing both is required.

The word diet implies going on a diet.

Obese people need to make life long changes in their eating choices (portion AND type). People don't go on diets for life ... and going on diets to lose weight sets people up for later failure because they will eventually need to go OFF the diet and they still don't know how to eat for the rest of life.

The life changes should be addressed from the beginning, and the going on a diet mentality thrown in the rubbish bin.

Sustainable? Yes, in theory, but in practice the vast majority of weight reducers gain it all back and more typically rather soon.

Which makes my other point more important. Increase your chances of success so this can be the LAST time.

yes the general, but wrong thinking ist: Fix the problem with a diet. After you can live normal again.

But in fact you must change what is normal for you....Or keep a permanent diet (just semantic how to call it).

Diets are good for diet book author's bank accounts but of little use for people dealing with weight control issues.

Buying all the books and Slim-powders, Cremes, pills at least makes your wallet slimmer biggrin.png

(I have the Thai girls in the office in my mind......buying whatever they can get from their low salaries, but eating breakfast at 7/11, drink a large coke after lunch and a big iced coffee full of sugar and fat 1 hour later....Beside not loosing weight they also develop strange skin color (grey) and heavy acne from the tablets)

I have no idea if these things work, I would say no but I have no proof it does not work. I would think that if stuff like that would work many people would use it and you would read much about it.

Best way to reduce weight is to eat better foods and less. Exercise can help too... but you can't correct a bad diet by exercising.

diet as in what you eat not a meal program.

there are various different ways to loose weight....but all boils down to eat less. The rest is just on how to achieve it easily and healthy. Exercise is not necessary, but usually people want to get in better shape and there the exercise helps a lot.
