and what would have happened if croatia would have won in the last minute with one man more on the field than they should have had? since australia won, its not that big of a deal, but what if ...

The referee was English man Graham Poll. If croatia had scored in the last minute - and if the man who scored it was the one with two yellow cards I would have laughed and laughed and laughed. Infact I doubt if i ever would have stopped!

1. as to your first part: Sepp Blatter, the Boss of FIFA said on Television that this mistake (Referee) was 'unforgivable' and NEVER should have happened; it's indeed a real shame that:

A. No one from the 4-man team of Referee and assistants said NOTHING...

B. it is astonishing that also NOBODY of the Aussie team 'signaled' the Referee

2. 'What would have happened'; that question was broadcasted on many TV-channels; Australia could have officially protested (in the case Croatia would have won).

The outcome is unclear of course but eventually the match could have been ordered to play again.....

But,.....we will never know

This Referee however, will not 'do' the final, that's for sure
