Both games dull. The US team lacks much defensive skill. Every time they get the ball, they give it back to their opposition.

They made it through. Maybe their better stuff is being saved for later. Hope springs eternal.

We'll take it! clap2.gif 0-1 against football power Germany ain't chopped liver, folks. On to USA vs. Belgium!

Yes, they did good. And Germany fell asleep in the last few minutes - USA could have easily got one back.

Hideously dull. This illustrates everything that's wrong with soccer. One team obviously inferior to the other but it takes an act of God for either of them to score.

you don't like that sport but still find time to follow the Forum and even participate? You must have a hideously dull life.

Don't care for soccer missionaries and would love to see the US lose--along with their preppie fan base.

Nobody forces you to like it or follow it.

Plenty sports I don't like, but accept the fact other like them.

Now, move along and play with yourself now.

Surely there most be some porn sites out there for you (when you play with yourself).

Well, since you want to be hateful, bring on your girlie soccer team. We'll suit them up and put them up against the USA Superbowl football champions and inflict some real pain for you. giggle.gif

The USA World Football team is just a group of thrown-together amateurs playing against the likes of other countries' professional teams, so let's see it both ways. crazy.gif.pagespeed.ce.dzDUUqYcHZ.gif

No, thanks, I believe I'll stick around for one reason only--to see the eventual American flub and watch you girls in your skirts and pom poms cry a river when they do.

What sort of dope are you? "The USA Superbowl football champions?" Something doesn't ring true about the sound of that phrase. I think you're a fake American, because Americans don't talk like that, especially football fans.

Very special to see Jurgen Klinsmann hugging the staff and most players on Germany.

Of course we know why, and it is nice to watch this kind of friendship and sportsmanship.

What would an American say that would suit you, in a thread about World Football, when he was differentiating between World Football and American NFL championship football. Out of the context of this thread, I would just say "The Superbowl Champions."

So bring on your girlie soccer team and suit up and take on the Superbowl Champions, the way the American amateurs took on the likes of the German national football team.

What the American team is doing at the World Cup is amazing considering few Americans play soccer, and they tossed together a group of amateurs to go play.

You do realise a lot more Americans play soccer than American football? Also there are 4 times as many soccer players in the US than in Germany. Actually more people in the US play soccer than the entire population of Belgium, their next opponent...

Several of the USA team are in fact pro footballers from Germany who have dual nationality but decided to play for USA, probably thought their chances were higher of making the USA team for world cups. A good number of the USA also have played for English premiership teams, just about the strongest football league in the world. Not to mention the head coach is an absolute footballing legend in Europe, one of the finest from his generation. USA have also been involved in the football world cup since the start of competitions history.

Not such an amateur looking set up now is it? A better showing of a real underdog in the tournament would probably be Costa Rica, but admittedly USA are giving a good showing for the team they have.

Well done to the USA. In the end the dropped points against Portugal did not matter as they would have been second in any case.thumbsup.gif

So, Germany's Germans beat America's Germans. All those Americans playing soccer that Gulfsailor is bragging about and the team the US puts out on the field is essentially is composed of players that probably couldn't even rate as Germany's backups. No doubt Gulfsailor is right about the numbers. It's just that all those players stop playing soccer after graduating from elementary school. The other fact here is that Neversure probably is indicative of the general American reaction to soccer (although I still think he might indeed be a fake American and, even worse, a phony Texan). That is he doesn't know enough about the team he's cheering on to realize where its players come from. He, and they, are cheering for a uniform, not a team of players. And when they're soon ousted from the tournament, Americans will quickly shift attention back to where it matters most this time of year, outdoor barbecues and mowing the lawn.

Again, losing 0-1 to powerhouse Germany was quite a feat even in defeat. The USA obviously isn't such a football powerhouse. YET. Of course nobody EXPECTS the USA to win this year's World Cup. But the fact that it is even possible is pretty darn COOL.

All of this is to say that Germany is one of the top soccer nations in the world every single year, and especially this year. For the U.S. to keep the game close was an achievement, even if the necessary result was a 1–0 loss. After all, the difference in the group was that the U.S. lost to Germany by one goal yet Portugal lost to Die Mannschaft by 4. So that’s something.
