I was issued with a OA visa in Feb of this year from the Thai Embassy in London it replacement my old "O" , Now I thought you had to go to the local immigration office.which for me is Songkhla however they told me they dont do it there I must go to Hat Yai .So I checked with Hat Yai and they said they dont do it you must go down to Sadao so off to Sadao I went to do a normal type of visa run stamped out of Thailand down the hill in and out of Malaysia and back into Thailand again .

I filled out the standard form and thought they should give me my 90 days so the stamp should read ADMITTED UNTIL 23rd of September 2014 however as you can see it says ADMITTED UNTIL 25 June 2015 .

Now I went into the main immigration office at Sadao and back to lady who gave me the stamp and they all said its correct but I cannot see how it can be as you can see from the item from the Thai embassy in Londons web site it states :-

ONCE ARRIVED IN THE KINGDOM

  • Upon arrival in Thailand, the actual length of stay (1 year) will be determined and granted at Immigration check - point.
  • Once having been in the Kingdom up to 90 days, applicant must report himself / herself to the authorities concerned and every 90 days, also report can be made by post by fill up the form TM.47 which can be obtained from immigration office.

as you can see it states Once having been in the Kingdom up to 90 days, applicant must report himself / herself to the authorities concerned and every 90 days .

I have attached a copy of the stamp and the visa so perhaps someone knows however I think to be on the safe side every 85 days I go down to the boarder as I understand Over stay is 100 Baht per day .

Many Thanks

You got the correct stamp.

The report is for staying in the country for more than 90 days. You make it to your local immigration office. You just fill out a TM47 form and submit it along with your passport. Your next report will be due 90 days from the date you entered the country including that date in the count.

Ok its just to report but Songkhla and Hat Yai Immigration offices sent me down to Sadao which is the boarder crossing so it looks like its going to be a straight forward visa run every 90 days . As you can see the visa is good but I did get the impression they have never seen a OA before . I did email Hat Yai but never got a reply .

Thanks for the feed back

Just walk in with the completed TM47 form and they will know what you want to do.

I am certain they have seen an OA visa before.

Thanks for the TM47 I have down loaded a copy , I will try Hat Yai again as its a pain going all the way down to the boarder and back and Hat Yai is only 30 Kms away .

As for the OA visa well the girl on the desk had no idea and I was standing there for over 30 minutes so maybe she was a trainee but in the past with the good old "0" Class it was in and out .

Many thanks for all your help

You do realize though that if you do a real border run (exit and return) a day before the 24th of February 2015 you will get another admitted until stamp that will cover you to 24 Feb of 2016 since you have a Multiple Entry O-A (long stay) Visa

Hi Langsuan

Thanks for the information yes its a bit like a " O " however I do leave Thailand about every month to go to work then main thing is that I can get back in again . But after all the fun and games it took to get the OA best to get the most out of it , However I sure there will be even more changes planned for the future .Mind you in 3 years time I will be 65 so I can get my good old " O " again .

Thanks again

This is a sentence that I don't understand.

What is special about the age of 65?

Is it your pension?

For visa/extension purposes it means nothing. 50+ is the relevant age limit.

"good ol "O"" ?

An O-A has much more value/flexibility than an ordinary Non-O.

In England they changed the " O " Class for people 65 and older this is why I ended up with a OA .

Thanks to all regarding the TM47 I will give that ago , However I should be out of Thailand next month for about 6 - 8 weeks so I will be stamped out of Thailand .

I second that.

But it's unbelievable how many immi. officers don't know what an O-A visa is.

Seen it first hand on many occasions and most surprisingly Suvarnabhumi airport immi.officers who act totally surprised

It never ceases to amaze me that people get visas and do not have a clue how they operate and what is required. OP do you have a multiply entry Non O-A visa if so you can get up to 2 years but will need re-entry permits for the second year if you leave the country.

I agree. It can be confusing at first, but certainly if you do it year after year, you'd think some of the basics would be absorbed.

"will need re-entry permits for the second year if you leave the country."

Very important.

Assuming he has the money in the bank or the income, and depending on how much time he spends in Thailand, he'd probably be better off ... after the permission to stay granted under the O-A is exhausted ... to get an annual extension of stay rather than bothering to get visas over and over again.

Do the annual extension of stay each year and get a re-entry permit (if needed) and no need to get good old O or O-A visas ever again.

I used my Non O-A (M) two times in 2011.

Once at Suvarnabhumi and late in the year at Nong Kai.

Both officer knew what to do, not too much surprised about the Non O-A.

They adjusted their stamps and I thoroughly checked it afterwards tongue.png

Thanks again for the feed back the reason why I am ask the above is because a few years back with my "O" Class when I came into Suvarnabhumi the guy at the desk stamp my passport with a 30 day I did not notice this until later . So I then had to go to the main Immigration office in Bangkok and cancel the 30 for a 90 day stay ,Sounds straight forward but its not so I thought I would double check on the stamp .

I have no idea why the abusive post as my question is very straight forward " Do I have the right Stamp " As we all know over stay is as far as I know 100 Baht per day , Yes its stamped in my passport as you can see 25th of June 2015 , As for the TM47 I dont think I need to fill it out because I am only here for about 42 days at a time , If however I am here for 90 days yes I need to fill out the TM47 , Not sure were to take it or post it since the main immigration office in Hat Yai did not want to know .Other wises it back to Sadao again .

That post was not directed at you.

If they don't want it then don't worry about it. There is no need for you to leave and re-enter the country again.

Sorry to hijack this thread, l am on retirement extensions and will be leaving the country next month for a few weeks, can you tell me if I need photos as well as my passport to get a re entry permit? Also, must I go to the same Immigration office as I go to for my extensions? Or can I go to any Immigration office?

You need a photo to attach to the TM8 application form. You will need your passport plus a copy of the photo page, visa, extension stamp and TM6 departure card.

You must do it at the office where you applied for your extension. You can also get it at either airport in Bangkok on departure from the country 24 hours a day.

Always check the stamp. Happened to me and many people I know. I was lucky to discover it while waiting for my baggage. Went back to the same guy and he corrected it.
