thanks for responding guys

richard,

it's dapper drake, ubuntu 6.06

kernel 2.6.15

firefox 1.5.04

gnome 2.14.1

francois,

can't find where to enable https, but if i could, i bet that would be the issue.

i tried networking and network tools in ubuntu, and preferences in firefox, but i don't see anything relating to https.

Hello Lost_in_space,

Open Firefox and type about:config into the URL navigation (where you normally type internet address), after this you will get all your Firefox settings, look at "security" and look if the SSL standard for the website you are trying to login to is set to "default - boolean - true"

that was quick, thanks

i toggled everything in security to "true

still no luck. i'm just trying to get to gmail.

maybe i'll try to compare my firefox settings on xp to the ones on ubuntu
