BANGKOK: -- A year after a famous monk was brought down by his taste in designer bags and jet-setting lifestyle, attention has turned to a Buddhist nun reportedly seen driving a Porsche and toting Louis Vuitton bags.

The Chumphon Office of Buddhism yesterday said it will investigate "Sister Sherry," a nun at Chumphon’s Tam Kwanmuang Temple, after photos online of her living a lavish lifestyle came under scrutiny.

“Maybe it’s not wrong for a nun, but her behavior is inappropriate,” an anonymous user wrote on Pantip. “It sparks curiosity and questions among Buddhists. It ruins the image of the religion and temple.”

As Buddhist nuns are expected to maintain a life of austerity, Sister Sherry’s photos have led to debates over whether it’s okay for a nun to be spotted in a six-million-baht car and holding THB30,000-worth of Louis Vuitton.

However others pointed out that nuns remain among the laity and do not commit to the same vows. [read more...]

sex industry will be in trouble tongue.png. Cheap Charlies must show up with at least a Porsche.

Many will be led to believe it pays more to become a nun now. What will the headlines be?

THAILAND’S ECONOMY IN JEOPARDY BECAUSE OF LACK OF SEX WORKERS? cheesy.gif

Honestly, I believe this will have some positive outcome only when we all can enjoy with the nun now.

There's enough hypocrisy to go around. Let's not hoard and reserve it for only the western religions.

All religions creeds etc are wealth creating wealth adoring entities who amass enormous sums of money yet they expect the population in general to assist those in need thus preserving the entities wealth .

Why do these entities need all this money?

Just a couple of culprits named below, in truth the list is endless.

Doesn't matter what she wears the correct order of colours for a Porsche are: Silver, Blue, Yellow, Black, Red.

It appears I am behind the 8-ball on this, it appears white has gained prominence!

"The most popular colours for a Porsche are black, white and red, but Porsche can custom paint a car any colour (for a fee). " http://www.natgeotv.com/ca/megafactories/porsche

The lady has good taste at least. Driving a new Porsche Cayman loaned to her by a fan. I never knew nuns have fans, like a pop singer?

AS long as she is not invvolved in money laundering or other illegal activities. Does she come from a rich family? Was it lent to her by a rich Singaporean businessman to drive? There is a precedent here with Chalerm. Perhaps same rich Singaporean businessman?

It's all in vogue now to catch these Thai charlatans. It's been going on for decades, but Thais look the other way because they benefit from the laundering. The Thai press never follows up on these cases. How is the extradition of the other monk going?

Hey..c'mon......the car matches her robes......

Can't blame the poor nun for being colour coordinated..:)

I think it's an individual right ,but she has to think more carefully before doing something like this because she's a nun and many people respect her.

It's OK. The bag is a knockoff she picked up at the big market in Vientiane, when she was over there changing money. Left the Porsche on the Thai side of the Mekong, rode the van over with the hippies, for a quick in & out.
