BANGKOK: -- Former attorney-general Atthapol Yaisawang said today that he was happy enough to be transferred back to the Office of Attorney-General although as an advisor to the attorney-general.

Shortly after the coup on May 22, Mr Atthapol was removed as the attorney-general and transferred to the Prime Minister’s Office until further notice.

Mr Atthapol paid respect to a shrine inside the Government House after he learned of the latest order from the National Council for Peace and Order moving him back to the OAG as an advisor.

When asked about the possible extradition of six former Pheu Thai MPs and red-shirt supporters facing arrests for lese majeste, illegal arms stockpiling and other charges, Mr Atthapol declined any comment saying he was yet to receive an instruction from his boss about the scope of his responsibility.

Mr Atthapol will use his previous room when he was the deputy attorney-general as his office and he will have two aides. He said that he did not feel any stress and was pleased to return to his old home.

Just to clarify, this is the genius that said since Thaksin was not physically in the country that he could not be guilty of organizing/sponsoring the violent insurrection and attempted incineration of Bangkok.

Not sure - was that him or his predecessor?

The one who said it retired shortly afterwards. His successor, who I think is this guy, promised to re-look at it. But, didn't get to it before being removed.

Actually, this is the puppet who was parachuted into the AG position and a week later, put the rubber stamp on Abhisit and Sutheop's trumped up murder charges.

This guy must be quite far up Prayuth's bum hole to be handed his position back.

Up to now I have commended everything Prayuth and the Junta have done so far.... but seems to me like the cronyism is starting to creep in and that will be enough for me to lose 100% of respect for the Junta and I fear that we are about to descend back into the same old crap.... just different faces.

How do you come up with "trumped up murder charges" for Mark and Suthep??? He himself (Suthep) after 3 years of refusing to answer has finally admitted he gave the order to use live rounds on people, (but aim for the legs) Trumped up charges, pigs ass, 100% accurate. and if he believed he was right then why did it take 3 years to admit it? that's real intestinal fortitude huh,

Also many here say Y/L is accountable for the deeds of her government ministers actions, Then by the token so is Mark in the 2010 murders.

could the return be that he has been put back as he has done nothing wrong? or could it be a strategic move to pacify anti-coup protestors by the powers that be?

What did you expect, the kingdom of heaven ? I have said it before and i say it again,''THE ESTABLISHMENT'" has far more power than the military,it has patience and a suffocating influence, they only need to wait until the next election,no matter who wins the establishment will always be in power and then the theater that is Thailand will start again as if nothing had happened.

Oh come on, Abhisit and Suthep didn't murder anyone, that's complete hogwash. And a lot of the people saying 'Yingluck is responsible for her people's actions' comes as a counter argument to the 'reds' insistence that 'Abhisit and Suthep must be held responsible for the army's actions'.

He hasn't been "Handed back his position"

He is there as an advisor, which means 'we will ask you if we want your advice otherwise sit down and shut up.

Perhaps they now have to many "advisors" hanging round the MP's office and want to move some of them elsewhere where they can be kept an eye on.

Advisor is another shorthand for

warming a chair and waiting to be questioned further about where the bodies and cash are buried.

This may be a form of strategy to give an outward perception of evenhandedness,

but he is also being watched closely. As likely easier to watch by his old ministry mates,

than the PM office staff, since at the OOAG the knew his games better.

What will he do in the job? what ever he is told to do,

and hope that translates to survival in his ministry job.

We are seeing a lot of 'ministry actions' the last month as ministers try and appear functional,

lest the scythe of new governance uncertainty cut them off at the ankles.

Animatic has it right, he is not back in office, he is only an adviser. It means he can make reports, recommendations and those will be read by the people who have the authority to make decisions. It's not him anymore, he is back in the building, but his hands are tight behind hios back.
