Mr. Surachai set the target to increase the consumption of pork

The President of the Swine Raisers Association, Mr. Surachai Sutthitham (สุรชัย สุทธิธรรม), has set the target to increase the consumption of swine in Thailand. He is also preparing to negotiate with the Internal Trade Department on tax reduction on the imports of corns and animal feeds, as they have shown signs of shortage in the future.

Mr. Surachai said that the domestic swine consumption is less than the expected target. Therefore, his association is cooperating with the Livestock Department to stimulate the consumption from 13.9 kg per person per year to 15 kg per person annually.

He said that the department will issue various menus that have pork as an ingredient. He added that the benefit of consuming pork will be shown on the menus so people would be enticed to try those dishes.

In the future, he views that swine raisers may face with the shortage of feed. He said that his association will propose this matter to the Internal Trade Department.

He said that the amount of corn is decreasing because farmers have turned to grow cassava following the “Alternative Energy Plant” policy. However, he said that prices of pork will increase in the fourth trimester of this year. The price is projected to be 50 baht per kg.

This sounds like a good one. Time for a cartoon.

Do the little piggies in Parliament really know what they are doing at the trough? :o

Of course not.

This Mister Pork Somchai is in orbit, like a satellite, far far away, even in another galaxy.

"My dear fellow Thais, You don't eat moo enough. That's really not cool for the honorable members of our little mafia... heu... sorry... our business association".

"Price of moo is going to increase. That's really sad, but you will note that it's not our fault (of course). The government is responsible. But mai pen rai, you will buy and eat 15 kilos per year, each of you, instead of 13,9 kilos, because I want to and said so. So I will be able to buy the new BMW. "

Those people are really amazing and an eternal source of jokes.

But this Mr. Surachai is not the govt.; he represents all the swine breeders who make their lincome by convincing the public to eat more moo, more moo. He's just doing his job.

I come from a background where pork had a bad name, due to trichinosis and other diseases caused by eating poorly cooked, infected pigs. Bacon and ham and pork sausage were fine, because they were cooked or cured, but we were hesitant to eat pork chops, and Mama had to cook a pork roast a long time. Question: is there anything that Thais don't do to pork, any part they don't eat before drowning it in chilies?

Of course, if avian flu worries get any worse, pork is the main alternative.

I like this part:

The President of the Swine Raisers Association, Mr. Surachai Sutthitham (สุรชัย สุทธิธรรม),...is also preparing to negotiate with the Internal Trade Department on tax reduction on the imports of corns and animal feeds, as they have shown signs of shortage in the future.
There is an over-production of pigs, and the president of the swine raisers association is asking the government to reduce the import cost of animal feeds so that even more pigs may be raised in Thailand.
